Disambiguation link edit

This otheruses link was removed with the comment "this is the only Santa Fe, Cuba". The link to other uses is placed for people that get to the article as result of a search, in case they were looking for something else. My opinion is that otheruses should stay. Why should people go to "Santa Fe, Cuba" when they're looking for another Santa Fe? Margana 22:10, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Is the question "Why would people..."? There could be a thousand reasons. The most common are by mistake or by chance. Bad links. Seach results. Google. You name it. This is not the only "Santa Fe". Anyway, an article listed in a disambiguation page should link back to that disambiguation page. Not only is this logical, but linking back and forth is one of the strenghts of wikipedia (think "how google works"). Cheers Qyd (talk)00:43, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm with Margana. The purpose of the dab notice is to quickly get me to the article I want, in case I have arrived at the wrong place because of an ambiguous title. The cases you mention will be exceedingly rare. Nobody will accidentally link to Santa Fe, Cuba when they really mean Hyundai Santa Fe. Search engines will give a list of results, and people do not simply choose randomly from the list. Remember also that the user always has the search box right there at the left. We do not need to exhaustively account for any article a user might possibly want.
Most of all, however, this is the wrong forum to bring this up. The overwhelming majority of pages do not follow the convention you are proposing. If you would like to change the way things are done, then please bring it up at wikipedia talk:disambiguation, gain consensus to change the Manual of Style, and then proceed.
Thanks to both of you for caring enough about the Wikipedia to debate such an esoteric point. Pissant 16:32, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oddly enough, this isn't the only Santa Fe in Cuba anyway ! The most westerly suburb of Havana is called Santa Fe. (I know, I lived there for 8 months). -- Beardo 21:39, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
