In the bay of Sandakan there was a pirate base: on May 11-14, 1870 the Italian corvette "Principessa Clotilde" (Cap. Carlo Rossi) attacked and burnt it. (Source: "Storia delle campagne oceaniche della Regia Marina" - 1992 - Vol I , page 111). Of course it is possible Cap. Rossi had hold of the wrong end of the stick and destroyed a fishing village only...

sandakan is in malaysia not indonesia. i dont understand why there is such template as the above, as i am quite new here. but if there is no explanation soon i will remove that template. --kawaputra 12:56, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
