In terms of his biography, [1] a later Samuel Newman of Rehoboth (?possibly a son) appears to have married, first Hannah Bunker on 2 May 1689, and probably m. widow Theodosia Wiswall before 1709.

Patience Newman, possibly a daughter, married Deacon Nathaniel Sparhawk of Cambridge, MA, 3 Oct. 1649, with their offspring, including Sibyl Sparhawk Wigglesworth of Dedham and Malden, who was married to the published poet Michael Wigglesworth, and was mother and grandmother to the first two holders of Harvard's Hollis Chair of Divinity.

These might be ties worth checking out and elaborating upon, since the connections with published written work and education seem so strong.
