Intolerance to Outsiders edit

someone edited this content recently and added this section. I live in Kenya and this information is only one thing: wrong. All Kenyans have some attitude of tribalism and the samburu are not different. He refers to the vandalism issue we have in LAIKIPIA most probably because i saw he also edited -"samburu national reserve" with equally wrong information. There is no haterate against whites in Samburu or anywhere in Kenya. I dont want to delete it because he will probably just add it again. There is not even a single source supporting that story.

Circumcision and beading edit

It seems from the several reports, (e.g. 1, 2, 3, and 4) that both male and female circimcission is a rite of pasage for Samburu people. This is an important information, which is missing. Because I am not an anthropologist, and not sure which reports are true, I would like somebody more knowledgeable to add this information and references. Or, alternatively, say that the reports are false.

Beading is briefly mentioned in the section "In western popular culture", but it is not a place where someone new to the topic would look for explanation.

I would suggest the explanation of meaning for beading as a part of either "Clothing" or "Social organization section". Alternatively, a new subchapter "Rites of passage" could be created, which could include both circumcission and beading.

subtribe of the Maasai? edit

Earlier this year somebody changed the introduction from "The Samburu are a Nilotic people of north-central Kenya that are related to but distinct from the Maasai" to "The Samburu are a sub-tribe of the Maasai." No reference was cited, and I think the original was more accurate. Would anyone object if I changed this back? Ninafundisha (talk) 14:51, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Also, just want to say that if there are any Samburu editors out there this page would benefit greatly from your input.Ninafundisha (talk) 15:24, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Samburu are Maasai. The earlier introduction had been rightly corrected. 102.167.99.62 (talk) 15:34, 11 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge with Woto edit

Woto appears to be significant in Samburu folklore, but it's unclear to me that there is sufficient coverage of it in RS to justify having a separate article just for that subject. signed, Rosguill talk 21:43, 19 November 2018 (UTC) signed, Rosguill talk 21:43, 19 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
