Is it possible for one of you really good coders to change the title of this page from

Sam (Olympic Mascot) to Sam the Olympic Eagle (1984 Olympic Mascot)

if you feel it is prudent? If you feel this isn't necessary, references can just be made to this page as is. ... Thanks!

(update: This would probably not be a necessary change, but I'll leave this talk item here for now, just as a suggestion. Also, this would probably qualify as a graduate from stub to full article once a good photo box is added, and perhaps some statistics and dialogue about the sales and popularity of this character at the time, and how it almost single-handedly began the collector niche of cloisonne pins, which didn't fade as a fad, and still persists today.)

Just wanted to say thanks to Nipisiquit for the elaboration about the Japanese tv show... I hope to see a sample of that somewhere someday, ...should be fun and interesting! Aviedit 17:49, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:SamOlyEagle1.JPG

edit

Image:SamOlyEagle1.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

November 23, 2007 Dear BetacommandBot:
All recommendations you made were pursued and completed. The image and its validations have been updated to your specifications. It also appears that the image may have been larger than necessary previously, and I am uploading a much smaller qualifying image. And thank you, too! Aviedit 15:22, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Justification for Elaboration/Differentiation re: two characters

edit

The portion of the article which sets out to clarify the difference between Sam the Olympic Eagle and Eagle Sam of America Sings has been a part of this article since near the time it was written, and should remain because it is there to remove confusion regarding a very common occurrence. I've made a few slight adjustments to make it even clearer than it was before as well. Working in the industry of illustration and animation, one of the most common questions that comes up is, to which character is the speaker referring?... because 1) the names are very similar 2) they are both productions of the Disney company 3) they are both cartoon eagles. In fact, in this very Wikipedia article around December 2006, a mistake was made, claiming that the two characters were the same, and this confusion is still widespread today. Truly, this clarification is needed so often in my line of work and experience with guests and readers, that it benefits this article greatly to have the difference included here in the Wikipedia article, as an opportunity to remove some of that confusion preemptively. Further rationale: This article is very, very short already. It certainly doesn't weigh the article down. Also, is this a dictionary, where quick, super-brief definitions exist?.. or is it truly an encyclopedia, where every effort is made to illuminate and educate with helpful information whenever possible? Clearly the latter is true, and considering the level of confusion regarding this character, it is a benefit to the article to provide assistance to the viewer with just a few extra lines that are helpful, instead of withholding information that could otherwise be of assistance. I don't feel the need to make a case all that often, but I think these characters deserve it. Thanks for listening.
