Talk:Salvador Sánchez Cerén

Not an objective article.

The article is essentially a piece of Marxist agitprop (agitation-propaganda) rather than a reference article - even its language is Marxist.

The article is also factually inaccurate, claiming (for example) that the government that came to power in 2009 was the "first leftist" government in the history of El Salvador. This ignores (for example) the government of President Duarte (from 1979 onwards) that nationalized many companies, sized privately owned land and greatly government spending. This is "left" by all normal definitions - "left" does not have to mean Marxist.2.218.23.30 (talk) 17:58, 30 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

In response to the above: The claim that Jose Napoleon Duarte was a "leftist" is not right. He was a Christian Democrat, generally regarded as a center-right current[1] and of course he came to power as part of a civilian-military U.S.-backed junta in March of 1980 (not 1979)[2].

And this is hardly "agitprop" (a political message contained in a art or literature).

That said the article is largely hagiography, and looks to be a poor translation from some Spanish piece that is not referenced.

But it is highly opinionated going so far as to say that people are him "were honored to breathe the same air as him." It is also said that he was named a "Commanding General" of the FMLN, when in reality he was named to the General Command, as he became the leader of the FPL, one of the five groups that made up the FMLN and were represented on that body.

Over the next few days I hope to strip out the passages that are just opinion (that he was hardworking, etc)., since he is likely to become president. But I hope someone more familiar with the subject will do it first.Jgperez (talk) 00:23, 15 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
