I question the wisdom of citing a work that has appeared in print only as an abstract as an authoritative source for suggesting that Saltator be moved to the Thraupidae. Has this work been published in more detail elswhere? John Trapp 19:47, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi John. Of course you're absolutely right. I'm uneasy about using that reference myself though I trust the sources. I've updated the page, downplaying the role of the abstract - though I'm loathe to remove it since it is both fascinating and relevant. I've also added references to two papers which place Saltator amongst various tanager species. The coverage is hardly comprehensive but casts serious doubts on Saltators placement in the Cardinalidae and hints at possible future revelations.Deargan 14:25, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
