Wikipedia guidelines violated

Article maligns living person with foul language and unsubstantiated information. Please edit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hibasameen (talkcontribs) 11:24, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Governor's rule

Added NPOV-Neutrality disputed. the article mentions, without any reference, that he is a 'very capable governor' and liked by 'poor people'. It also maligns another political party.Najafhaider (talk) 21:08, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Notice: Much of the material in this article violates Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living people

See policy. I quote:

Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion.

For five months now there have been citation needed tags, and virtually none has been fulfilled. I suggest we start removing anything not cited - particularly those that involve pointless adulation and those that could be slanderous. Beetle B. (talk) 05:15, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

I put the notice up here 2 months ago, and nothing was done. That's at least 7 months of "citation needed" tags. I should have removed it all back then as per the WP policy, but I thought I'd give people a chance to update the article. As it stands, the article has only one reference. I removed all unsourced material from the page. Beetle B. (talk) 14:39, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
I have added some references.-- - M4nag3r(-)rC[Reply] 16:59, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Picture?

i found one on his Twitter page http://twitter.com/#!/SalmaanTaseer this page might get a lot of hits soon, so it may be a good idea to add one, however I don't know how. Any help? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.179.8.249 (talk) 11:53, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Have little idea about image licenses and all. Please ask at village pump or another editor having knowledge about image stuff. TheMikeWassup doc? 12:00, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
The current photo is public domain because it's a work of the US government. A photo from a Twitter page is not public domain. Heroeswithmetaphors (talk) 05:32, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Merge

Note: The merge referred to here is to merge Malik Mumtaz Qadri with this article, Salmaan Taseer. DBaK (talk) 20:50, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

support -- its been set by precedence. The article is also too small and offers nothing more than what is on this page.(Lihaas (talk) 16:42, 4 January 2011 (UTC)).

Alam82 -- As an author of this article i think that it would be good to merge this article to Salmaan Taseer--(Alam82 (talk) 20:28, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Support - no independent notability DBaK (talk) 20:47, 4 January 2011 (UTC) and Comment - half of the article is a direct copy of http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-12111831 (or, to put it another way, stolen property) and cannot be used in that form anyway. There's little left now and it should go.

Support No outside notability - merge the two articles. Franklinville (talk) 20:48, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Merge the assassin has no notability outside of this single incident. Merge the paragraph we have on him into the main article and redirect his page here. Also, we need to remove the link in this article. Heroeswithmetaphors (talk) 22:24, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Alam82 -- I agree that this article may not meet the notability policy of wikipedia but do not forget that this person is just captured may be he will admit many things related to terror attacks in pakistan that is why i oppose the deletion fo this article.--(Alam82 (talk)

Support - notable for only one event. Should be merged into this article. --Joshua Issac (talk) 23:58, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Support - I concur with merging it; the other page is irrelevant outside this specific event and as such I don't think it warrants a page of its own. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.63.61.212 (talk) 00:08, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Merge completed. Unless we gets lots of new, reliable information on the assassin, we should not give him a separate article. See WP:PERPETRATOR: "The perpetrator is notable for something beyond the crime itself." Heroeswithmetaphors (talk) 01:10, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Support - If the merge has been completed, that's how it should stay. This page can be deleted now if that is true. Except for the most notable assassinations, assassins are usually a part of the page about their victim or deed. 99.231.200.55 (talk) 02:54, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Comment - it's still there, or back, or something, at Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri. Looks like an editor restored it claiming no consensus; and indeed there is a (small) discussion on its own Talk page. Needs sorting a little better than this - it's as if editors there do not know this discussion exists. DBaK (talk) 08:30, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Take that non-notable article!
I just merged that one too. I guess we'll have to keep looking for alternate spellings. This is madness! Heroeswithmetaphors (talk) 12:54, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Nice one, thanks. DBaK (talk) 17:12, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Comment it's back again, at Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri. DBaK (talk) 22:18, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

ITN/vandalism

there are numerous edits taht were not explaied/vandalised. the bots cleaned some, ive gone and restroed the originals (regardless of who added it) and calling for thea rticle to be locked. some examples:[1][2][3][4][5][6][7](Lihaas (talk) 21:41, 4 January 2011 (UTC)). TRUTH: It should not be merged at all. Many people are eager to search Mumtaz Qadri and considering him their hero. Also he has good family background. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.178.75.214 (talk) 02:48, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Bare URLs

Heroeswithmetaphors (talk) 22:21, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Wrong pakce for the banner, but its   Done(Lihaas (talk) 02:04, 5 January 2011 (UTC)).
I know. I altered the code of the actual banner and pasted it here because the template link was removed every time I put it in the article.  :/ Probably no one will remove it from the Talk Page. Heroeswithmetaphors (talk) 12:32, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
There only appeared to be one bare url left (which I fixed) when I read the article, but I'm not knowledgeable enough about citation policies to be confident in removing the notice. Can someone check and remove the notice if all refs are suitably fixed now? thanks --PoizonMyst (talk) 09:10, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Lies on page

'A fan page appeared on Facebook soon after the assassination in support of Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, showing news photos of him smiling. The fan page soon gathered thousands of supporters.[20]' the page does not exist, not 100s of suppoerts stop spreading lies

'Agree with above fact, that the fan page exist but it has no more than 30 supporters. This is a lie. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Humayunahsan (talkcontribs) 05:31, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

I myself saw that page with around 1000 or so fans. Once the news got out the page was removed. You must be looking at a different page. 78.144.70.240 (talk) 20:23, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
According to The Guardian the page did exist. "The internet had already been hosting fan pages for Qadri, with one Facebook page attracting over 2,000 followers before being taken down"

Well, I am glad they are false lies and not true lies (sarcasm). New comments go at the bottom.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 03:04, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
I don't make up stuff; The datum included a citation from a reliable source, The Globe and Mail:
A fan page appeared on Facebook soon after the assassination in support of Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, showing news photos of him smiling. The fan page soon gathered thousands of supporters.<ref name="GRAEME SMITH"> {{cite news | last= Smith | first= Graeme | url= http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/asia-pacific/governors-killing-sets-off-political-powder-keg-in-pakistan/article1857737/ | title= Governor’s killing sets off political powder keg in Pakistan | publisher= [[The Globe and Mail ]] | date= Jan. 04, 2011 | accessdate= }} </ref>
The initial fan page appears to have been deleted by Facebook, as is common for fan pages glorifying criminals, but here is another. Heroeswithmetaphors (talk) 12:43, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
I restored it as it was removed for the now deleted and redicrected page. Feel free to remove it gain i f you feel fit.(Lihaas (talk) 15:15, 5 January 2011 (UTC)).

Birth date and place

"I am Salmaan Taseer's daughter, Shehrbano. The facts of Salmaan Taseer's birth date, birth place, and children's names are incorrect on this page and as a result, many news publications are getting them wrong as well." Here is the correct information:

Salmaan Taseer's birth date: May 31, 1944
His children's names (in order): Sara, Shaan, Sanam, Shahbaz, Shehryar, Shehrbano
Birth place: Simla, India
You can check the following for verification:
http://twitter.com/salmaantaseer — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shehrbanot (talkcontribs) 16:31, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
That is a source which we cannot use. __meco (talk) 19:41, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm not actually convinced the twitter posting is unusable. It's an odd one for sure. But it appears to be official so I don't see any reason to treat it any real diff from other self published primary sources like blogs, Facebook pages or personal home pages. And while self published sources aren't ideal, in the absence of any reliable secondary sources they are IMHO acceptable for simple facts like dates of birth in cases when there doesn't appear to be any legitimate dispute and where BLP privacy issues don't arise. I'm not willing to add the date myself though.
In any case, there is however no justification I can see for us to keep what appears to be a completely unsourced DOB which has been disputed by an official source, so I have removed the DOB completely until we actually find a source we agree on.
Nil Einne (talk) 20:03, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Indeed, I think you are right in that opinion. I agree it can be used. __meco (talk) 20:07, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
I have been bold and changed it. As per the above, I think that concerning birth date and place we should regard his Twitter account and personal homepage as more reliable sources than that Nation article. Heroeswithmetaphors (talk) 02:28, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

I have been searching on Google for a good 20 minutes looking for Salmaan Taseer's birthplace. The only mention of it I could find was from this forum. http://www.forumpakistan.com/a-brief-history-of-current-governor-of-punjab-t18458.html

Does anyone have more pages stating he was born in East Punjab, India?

Actually, that page is very unclear of where exactly he was born. Though it still stands, we should continue searching for his birthplace. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rayne117 (talkcontribs) 08:43, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Lahore is not east punjab, if thats the case.(Lihaas (talk) 15:16, 5 January 2011 (UTC)).

Near his "home"

the norwegian source suggests he was near his home, but both AlJazaeera and this page indicate he lives in Punjab (Lahore), AlJazeera being the more RS which said he was just visiting.(Lihaas (talk) 15:17, 5 January 2011 (UTC)).

Firstly, would the governor having several homes be an incredible situation? Secondly, unless sources contradicting the given RS are produced then they have no relevance. __meco (talk) 15:25, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
There are Governor houses of all 5 provinces in the capital Islamabad which are frequently used by Governors on their visit to Islamabad, they are not so as to speak, their own homes. A lot of news papers in Pakistan use Wikipedia as a source news, we should be very much careful when choosing the words. Sarmadhassan (talk) 05:57, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
It is unclear what exactly you are suggesting here. You have now twice[8][9] removed the reference which states the shooting took place near Taseer's home. Please cease these disruptive edits. Unless you can provide convincing references to suggest this is incorrect, this information is appropriately referenced and stays. __meco (talk) 15:46, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Both edits were made in good faith and are not distributive in the sense that they are correcting the information. While I agree the reference stays for "near his home", it conflicts with the number of shooting and the type of weapon used as per [10]. The reference I am providing is as much reliable as the one you contributed, if not more. Because it clearly states the use of submachine gun instead of AK-47 and the number of shots to be 26 and not 27. After some consultation, I am putting in my reference for the weapon type and number of shooting while your reference stays for mentioning of his residence. Hope this will solve the issue. Sarmadhassan (talk) 07:21, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
First I want to state that Sarmadhassan came forward on freenode channel #wikipedia-en-help to ask for resolution of this « conflict », which is what he refers to by "consultation". I happen to think that the BBC source shall take precedence because it is an English-language source as opposed to the one in Norwegian, although I am not dismissing the reliability of the latter : to resolve this, I think the use of the two references to back each -separate- claim is the appropriate course of action. Removing a valid reference to "rectify" things is never a good idea in my opinion. If there is additional clarification needed in regards to the number of shots fired, this can very well be explained in a note explaining the conflicting numbers from the sources. Hope this helped - [CharlieEchoTango] 07:44, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Obviously we are presented with a somewhat tricky referencing issue when a sentence consists of two statements (or more) and one wants to add a reference for the last part of the sentence which does not purport to corroborate any of the preceding information. I believe the way this has been solved currently is satisfactory. __meco (talk) 12:13, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Let me clarify. The ex-Governer had a house in Lahore and also in Islamabad. At the time of murder he was at a dinner close to his house in Islamabad. 78.144.70.240 (talk) 01:43, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Your input is appreciated. I believe we have been able to present this clearly now, and with a reliable source to attest to it. __meco (talk) 12:13, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

International reactions

The UN Secretary, General Ban Ki-moon, has been quoted as saying multiple things condemning the assassination, but I have not found anything saying it was a blow to the the country. --Rayne117 (talk) 00:42, 6 January 2011 (UTC) http://www.nation.com.pk/pakistan-news-newspaper-daily-english-online/International/05-Jan-2011/UN-US-condemn-assassination http://www.sify.com/news/united-nations-condemns-assassination-of-pak-punjab-governor-news-international-lbfqkhefeih.html

I have been not particularly bold at all and changed it to reflect the above reliable source. That was a totally uncontroversial edit, as there was no source backing up the previous quote. Remember: on Wikipedia, you can remove anything that is not sourced (especially on biographical articles). Anything! You don't even have to ask. Heroeswithmetaphors (talk) 02:51, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
I was going to edit it myself, but alas, the article is locked and I didn't believe I would be able to edit it.
Thanks for the tips, though. They will be utilized in future edits. --Rayne117 (talk) 03:48, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Blasphemy law in Pakistan link

OK, this is a pretty lame thing to edit war over, but I think the blasphemy law in Pakistan link, if we really can't have 2 in the article (which I don't think is overlinking in this case since it is central to the assassination), should go in the section about the assassination since our sources say it was the direct cause of the assassin's anger. Heroeswithmetaphors (talk) 02:04, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Age: 66 → Year of birth: 1944

According to the BBC, the CBC, and to many others, including many International Press Agencies (as AFP), he was 66 years old, not 63-64.

Applying basic mathematics, he was born in 1944, not in 1946.

Dawat-e-Islami

As mentioned, Mumtaz Qadri is not related to Dawate Islami, Dawate Islami is a peaceful organization working in more than 72 countries. The founder of Dawate Islami says that even if somebody kills me, then I have forgiven him for his act. No person must hurt him... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mustaqkhatri (talkcontribs) 18:25, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Well, this Dawn article says "Assassin linked with Dawat-i-Islami," citing a "colleague of Mumtaz Qadri". On Wikipedia, we go with what a reliable source says, not hearsay and personal opinion. If you have a reliable source that says Mumtaz Qadri is not related to Dawate Islami, please add it to the article. Heroeswithmetaphors (talk) 19:41, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Religion

PLEASE ADVISE HOW YOU CHANGED LATE SALAM TASEER RELIGION ISLAM FROM AHMEDI,WHICH WAS SHOWN BEFORE HIS DEATH.THERE IS NO SYSTEM WHERE A PERSON CAN CHANGE RELIGION AFTER DEATH. IF HE DID JUST BEFORE DIEING THAT COULD BE DIFFERENT.BUT I GUESS HE HAD NO TIME TO DO THAT, AS IT HAPPENED VERY FAST. WBR ALIRANDHAWA —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.10.197.36 (talk) 06:02, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Do you have a reliable source that says he was Ahmadi? This reliable source says he "visited" an Ahmadi place of worship. Given that Pakistan has declared Ahmadis to be non-Muslims, it is highly unlikely that an Ahmadi would reach such a high political office in Pakistan. Anyhow, we need a reliable source before we change anything. Heroeswithmetaphors (talk) 20:11, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
