No Personal Life section?

edit

This article could really use a Personal Life section. Would someone mind creating one? Softlavender (talk) 05:40, 20 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Never mind, some material has now been added. Softlavender (talk) 03:18, 4 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Personal life

edit

Here's the quote from the article cited: "She suffers from lupus, an autoimmune condition that can make travel suddenly challenging and which she prefers, like most other personal matters, including the fact she is unmarried, not to discuss."

The addition of the bare line "She is unmarried" to this bio is odd, and smacks of sexism, hearkening back to a time when one's social status was wedded (excuse the pun) to one's marital status. Listing something she is not is also odd. We wouldn't add that she doesn't have children, or doesn't own a dog etc. Given that she hasn't discussed her relationships publicly, this indicates to me that her marital status was determined by a fact checker and not from the interview itself.

I propose: "Ms. Hawkins prefers not to discuss her personal life." What do you think? H0n0r (talk) 01:46, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hawkins is a 45-year-old adult. Personal Life sections exist almost exclusively to provide information on a person's domestic status: where they live, what marriages, spouses, or partners they have had. Wikipedia is not censored. It does not matter what the subject does or does not like to discuss. There is nothing sexist about this; it does not matter what sex or gender the subject is. The information is cited and from a reliable source. -- Softlavender (talk) 04:13, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
