Talk:Salem-Keizer School District

Untitled section edit

Previously there was a lot of information without links, but I've looked into that and updated. Do you think it would be appropriate to remove the cleanup message at the top? Some of the sources are from the Salem-Keizer School District. Are they as valid, or do we still need to find better sources? BellaMaeMe (talk) 16:59, 17 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Looks like you already removed the cleanup message, which I placed two years ago. :) Yes this article is much improved and doesn't need cleanup anymore--thanks for all your hard work! There's not necessarily anything wrong with {{single source}} articles, especially for basic facts about the district. Third-party reliable sources are absolutely necessary for statements such as "S-K School District is the best school district in the entire state." I think this article is barely "Start" class, as it consists mostly of lists, and has very little prose content, but I'll remove the WP:ORE project rating and let someone else make that call. I think this is still a Stub. Convert the school board to prose and then it would be start. For that section, work in the terms of board members along with the current time up year, plus are they elected at-large, by district, hybrid, is the chair elected by the voters or the board. Assessment edit

I have been asked to review the assessment of this article. This article is coming on nicely now, but is still dominated by lists, which are of limited helpfulness to readers. Ideally every single in the district should have a section in the article and a paragraph of basic information, including those with their own articles per WP:SUMMARY. I know that will be difficult with the amount of schools, but this article is far from having length issues at only 10K, and if necessary the summary of schools could be split into a sub-page in the long-run. After reading WP:ASSESS I am promoting this article to Start class. Stub articles are usually very short, but can be very long if the material is 'irrelevant or incomprehensible', which is clearly not the case here. 'Provides some meaningful content, but the majority of readers will need more.' is a more accurate description, and I would actually say it is close to C-class. This is great information. I am wondering if anyone has good sources for where we might be able to find more information on each of the schools. The Statesman Journal is not going to have as much information as we need for all of the schools, so would we want to use the school website? Is that reliable? I know that the Oregon Department of Education has information on each school with their report cards. If anyone has other suggestions for sources, please post. :) BellaMaeMe (talk) 15:38, 12 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Some of my Oregon school sources are here: User:Tedder/School notes. NCES, ODE, and NAAS are all decent sources for school summaries. tedder (talk) 15:44, 12 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Great, I'll check those out! The Oregonian also has statistics for all Salem-Keizer schools as well at [1]. It has the same information for other school districts, in case you work on general schools in Oregon.BellaMaeMe (talk) 18:41, 12 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
