This is a subject with an incredibly rich background, with many innovative designs. I'm surprised nobody started a Wikipedia article on it, so I just did. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures that I know for sure are public domain, but there are several in the links I included. I hope someone can take this and improve it. =Axlq

Merge

I think the Hydrofoil assisted multihulls article should be merged here, since that's a subset of the broader subject of sailing hydrofoils. =Axlq 04:34, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

I have merged the information from Hydrofoil Multihulls into this article as nearly a month has passed with no objections. =Axlq 03:08, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

addition of vestas sailrocket 2 to this article at 17 September 2013 07:40 should be undone

According to the definition of sailing hydrofoil used in this article, it requires that upwards lift is produced by a hydrofoil in the water, neither by a foil in the air, nor a foil producing lateral resistance (horizontal lift) or a down force. No foil used in sailrocket 2 meets this requirement, therefore is there any reason not to completely remove it from this article?

History section?

When is a sailing class not a sailing class?

The article contains a section titled Foiling classes, but in the sailing world "class" has a special meaning in the sense of a centrally-regulate type used to racing. Many of the boats in the list are clearly not "class" boats in this sense. Either the title needs a change or they should be in a separate list. --Cornellier (talk) 21:11, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Trimaran Ultim Class
