The greater part of this article was based on three different novels: Vishwas Patil's Sambhaji, Namdevrao Jadhav's Khara Sambhaji, and Shivaji Sawant's Chhava, which I have removed from the references. It is never appropriate to use a fictionalised account as a source for descriptions of actual historical events in Wikipedia articles. As regards these three individual works, Patil's book has been discussed at Talk:Sambhaji where it has been shown that it is not a reliable source (so should not be used); it, and Sawant's Chhava are discussed in an article in Vishwawarana National Research Journal – I do not know the scholarly value or impact of that journal, but it is the only mention of these works I could find in a search for academic sources. The article's author, Manjushri Pawar, says: "[The authors] intend to present a fair and historically true image of Sambhaji. It cannot be said that they are to a greater extent successful in their endeavor. Sambhaji in their novels does have his heroines. But that does not impair his personality. On the other hand they have utilized their affairs to romanticize and glorify the life of Sambhaji."[1] (And this is an article which has a clear and explicit aim in "going to the roots of the defamation" of Sambhaji – not what a serious academic work should set out to do – but it serves to emphasise the point that these novels can absolutely not be used as sources in Wikipedia.) Jadhav's Khara Sambhaji, finally, is marketed and sold as fiction, and the only commentary I am able to find on it is in non-academic sources. Namdevrao Jadhav's self-described mission is "Spreading the Real Thoughts of Chtarapati Sambhaji Maharaj" (per his presentation of himself on his Facebook page), which of course is a sign that he should probably not be used as a source.
S.A. Bahekar's book is described as scholarly in one literature review but he has zero GScholar hits so the reference may not be reliable. And the source "Sawant, Indrajit. Marathyanche Swatantrayuddha Bhag 1 - Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is not possible for me to identify – is it a book, an article, or some other type of publication? Hello, Sawant Indrajit's book Marathyanche Swatantrayuddha Bhag- 1 Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is a book. It is written by historian Indrajit Sawant who resides in Islampur, Sangli District, Maharashtra. This person has written a series of 3 books on the 27 years war between the Mughals and the Marathas. The above mentioned book is the first book in the series
The second book in the series is based on the reign of Rajaram.
The third book in the series is based on the life of Tarabai.
All three of these books are not novels or fictionalized accounts like Sambhaji of Vishwas Patil and Chhava of Shivaji Sawant. These are proper history books. Although His personal aim is to depict the true history of Sambhaji. He has used several references and cited several letters from the period of Sambhaji. He has also cited accounts of Mughal historians such as 'Khafi Khan' , 'Bhimsen Saxena' and 'Saki Mustaidkhan' in all these three books. I think this book is a balanced portrayal of Sambhaji and his history.
