CLEAN UP!
editCan someone put a chart or table on this article like the drug test article which shows how quickly you can get tested after exposure, the odds of catching each individual disease, and the method of testing?
- It might be better to link to individual articles about each disease. The numbers vary substantially by test method and disease. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:34, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
TERMINOLOGY
edit"STD" is a somewhat outmoded acronym. The preferred nomenclature should be "STI" (Sexually Transmitted Infections). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.100.197.60 (talk) 16:16, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- It's funny you think that. My parents learned about STIs, while I learned about STDs. Or did you just get your letters confused? ;) --Mûĸĸâĸûĸâĸû 11:03, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Blood tests
editMost STD tests are not blood tests.
Dependence fallacy
editExcellent section but potentially obfuscating title.
Article name - STD vs STI
editThe main article on this topic, Sexually transmitted disease still uses disease, rather than infection. The name of this article should stay consistent with the name of that, unless there is a clear reason to do otherwise.
Google web page counts still show a (small) lead for STD test
- "STD test" 164,000
- "STI test" 140,000
Google trends shows searches for STD test a few times as common as STI test STD test,STI test
So there isn't clearly compelling evidence that this article should change to STI.
The topic of STI versus STD is discussed periodically on talk:Sexually transmitted disease, and that is probably the place to initiate or join in on discussion on updating the terms or renaming the articles in general. Zodon (talk) 20:14, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
- Keeping the articles consistent was my main concern. (Whether they use STI or STD I don't have strong consistent preference.)
- I did the Google checks as a quick way to get an idea whether common usage has shifted towards STI yet or not. (Of course a more careful check would be to correct for pages that use both, and to weed out pages that deal with other uses of the initialisms, etc.) If Google trends/hits/etc. indicated that STI test had overtaken STD test in commonness, my inclination would have been to introduce the naming topic at the STD talk page. Did not mean to imply that because that hasn't happened the topic shouldn't be opened/reopened there. Zodon (talk) 18:32, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
