The article contains this sentence:

Its construction was completed in less than 2 years, and on April 14, 1981, SPENS opened its door for the first time, its inaugural event being the 9th Table Tennis European Championships in Novi Sad (Serbian: Stonotenisko prvenstvo Evrope Novi Sad – SPENS, hence the unofficial name of the venue).

The problem is that the 9th Table Tennis European Championships was held in Novi Sad in 1974, seven years before the construction was completed. The 1981 World Table Tennis Championships was held in Novi Sad, but the "E" in "SPENS" is mysterious to me. Vanjagenije (talk) 23:08, 30 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Vanjagenije, the letter "E" was also mysterious to me and "SPENS" clearly isn't the acronym for what was mentioned above. I have found that the event was named "SPENS '81" and still can't see the logic behind putting letter "E" between other letters, but that's the decision of that time and we can't interpret it in the article's content (as was the case). On the other hand (if correct, it will make sense), if you look for some of acronym's definitions, it says: "Although the word acronym is often used to refer to any abbreviation formed from initial letters, some dictionaries and usage commentators define acronym to mean an abbreviation that is pronounced as a word, in contrast to an initialism (or alphabetism)‍". I hope that makes a little more sense than what was until recently name origin description in article.--AirWolf talk 21:02, 1 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
