Untitled edit

I have added one item to the list of Ruth Plumly Thompson's non-OZ books. "King Kojo," wittily illustrated by "Little Lulu" cartoonist Marge and published in 1938 by Donald MacKay is a lively and very funny story about the Kingdom of Oh-Go-Wan beside the Rolantic Ocean and its ruler - portly, bewhiskered, impulsive, jolly King Kojo. The timeless narrative is action-packed and features magic, puns, surprises, and some very engaging characters - including Dorcas, a twenty foot tall wooden ship's figurehead who is a refreshing switch on the usual clumping male giant.

In fairness to Thompson, whose style is presented in this profile as rather staid, it would be appropriate to at least cite "King Kojo" as an example of Thompson's originality and verve as a story teller for children.

More information on King Kojo can be found by entering his name in Google. His first appearance, with a different illustrator, was in King Comics in 1936.
