Re: merge with Far Eastern Federal District

I removed the merge notices from both the Far Eastern Federal District and Russian Far East articles (it was actully me who split them in two in the first place some time ago). Why it is true that both terms apply to the same territory, the first, however, is a unit of administrative division, and the second a historio-geographic term. Russian Far East will always stay the same, while the Federal District can be changed any day or abolished all together. The difference here is approximately the same as between the Kamchatka Peninsula and Kamchatka Oblast.

I am afraid that the current article describes more the current fed district than to the historical notion of "Dalnij Vostok" ("Far East"). The history section would be handy here. mikka (t) 9 July 2005 04:46 (UTC)

RFE vs. federal district

Please note that Russian Far East refers to the historical territory, while Far Eastern Federal District is merely an administrative division, and fairly recent at that. Buryats

East Asia?

Somehow, this is included in discussions of East Asia. I'm not an expert on Russia, and I don't recall any specifics that would make it part of the region culturally. Politically, there is the Russia/China border and the sometimes violent history of Manchuria, but other than that, I'm drawing a blank. On the off chance that someone comes by and sees this, and knows something I'm missing, could they place it in the article, (and ideally, leave me a message on my user talk?)
