Editing Dates

edit

If there is an event in this persons life that you are sure that is going to happen (i.e, movie involvment or releases), put them in the past tense. If you are unsure if the event is going to take place, it would be better to leave out said event until it does happen. Never do encyclopedias say "currently", "soon to be", or "will . . ."

Hannah Murray

edit

I'm not sure if this should be added or not, as I've found no sources (apart from Hannah Murray's Wikipedia page) but it's been said that those two are dating. Is it wise to add it? --Eperdermic 16:43, 30th March 2007 (UTC)

We can add encyclopedic neutral material that is verifiable from reliable sources, but must avoid potentially slanderous gossip and rumours. Mr. Grint's current dating relationaships with other people are his business, along with his eating, bathroom, and hygiene habits; but not particularly notable or encyclopedic, as there is no legal status with who he likes today. They could be "head-over-heels in love" today and have a huge fight tonight and break up permanently tomorrow. Marriage and official engagements are different, but we still have to be careful to avoid slander and libel. There are plenty of unreliable Paparazzi sources out there who might firmly assert that Grint is now engaged to Brittney Spears and they even tried to elope, and they might even provide all sorts of photo-shopped "proof" of this, in order to sell gossip magazines. The Wikipedia is expected to rise above that nonsense. Again, there is a big difference between engagement or marriage, and simply going out for burgers and a dance last Thursday. Photos

edit

I'm going to make the same complaint I made about the Daniel Radcliffe article regarding the photos: this article is too short to have two photos and not look ridiculous, especially since (as is currently the case on the Daniel Radcliffe page) one of the photos is right on top of the other. Someone needs to either move one of the photos down or delete it all together. --Hazey Jane 06:15, 19 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Trivia

edit

Took out the sibling thing as it is already in the actual article and the ice cream man thing as it's more of a fansite thing. Actually the Trivia section should be taken out all together as it contains information that can be found on any fansite, and it really is more of "fansite information"

I'm okay with some of the trivia there, though I'm glad you took out the bit about him wanting to be an ice cream man, as that seems especially trivial (not to mention, virtually unverifiable). --Hazey Jane 23:49, 4 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
I completely agree with the first comment—unsigned though it is. This is becoming more a fan page than an encyclopaedia article, and I'm tempted to slap it with a cleanup tag... RadioKirk talk to me 14:48, 19 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Criticism" section

edit

Grint has drawn some criticism from fans for his portrayal of Ron in the films. Some defend him as the best and only choice, others accuse him of ruining the Ron character. While Ron was always clearly more light hearted and laid back than Harry and Hermione, and on occasion the victim of a joke at his expense, his occasional foolishness is frequently overplayed in the films for comic relief, often making him out to be a completely inept buffoon and a coward at times when the book had him acting bravely, and many fans blame Grint for making Ron an effeminate, inarticulate wimp. Hermione, on the other hand, is made out to be much wiser, stronger, prominent, and even funnier than her book counterpart. The way the scripts are written may also play a factor in this.

POV, but does it need to be deleted or just rewritten? CJHung 16:07, 3 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Rupert Referenced in HBP

edit

I have removed the claim that Rupert was referenced in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I apologize for not immediately citing a source on the discussion page, I was in a hurry and forgot I even made the change until someone sent me a message requesting a citation. I'm pretty sure that JK Rowling herself has said something on this subject, but I couldn't find it before I found [[2]] from Arthur Levine, the American editor. p. 485: [Professor Slughorn says:] “Had a house-elf taste every bottle after what happened to your poor friend Rupert.”

We’ve received a number of e-mails suggesting that Ms. Rowling must have been thinking of Rupert Grint (who plays Ron in the films) here and thus accidentally substituted his name for Ron’s. But truly this substitution is a deliberate choice on Ms. Rowling’s part: She is underlining the fact that Professor Slughorn has never paid very much attention to Ron, to the point that he still gets Ron’s name wrong even after Ron almost died in his rooms, and thus pointing up again Slughorn’s particular taste for “the company of the famous, the successful, and the powerful,” as Dumbledore says, over those who may be less flashy but are just as worthy, like Ron.

I'd also like to point out his request: Before you write to us about a possible mistake in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, we ask that you check our list of errata and explanations below. Likewise, before putting anything on Wikipedia about supposed mistakes, you should check that link first. -- Crushti 20:22 UTC, 8 April 2006

Thanks for the source, it even rings a bell. I'm not sure that it rules out the possibility of Grint having influenced the choice of that name, though, escpecially in light of the other nods to hp culture. Anyway, i was thinking of adding a paragraph to the main HBP (book) article about possibe references to that, and i think this piece of trivia belongs there, if anywhere. The reference to it already there is a little informal and repetative.Amo 20:47, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Photo Image Substitution and Reversion

edit

On the question of Rupert's Image - my intention was to provide a PR image that showed Rupert as Rupert, not as "Ron Weasley" - where the same image is used. The image I uploaded (and then was speedily deleted on my request, shortly after the copyvio claim) was among the publicity photos at The Leaky Caudron, and appeared to be from a PR poster, which qualifies as a "promotional photo" in fair use, to illustrate a person. It was subsequently claimed to have been taken from a magazine article (and not a cover either) and on further inspection it appeared to be as claimed (some foreign "teen" magazine). That image, as stated, has been deleted, and the original Ron Weasley photo reset. HOWEVER - I really would like us to get to work on replacing all these movie-based photos (like Rupert as Ron Weasley) on the actor's pages, with proper PR photos of the actors (and actresses) being themselves, as there is more to their lives than posing in character for the popular movies they appear in. Thanks, and apologies for the copyvio error. --T-dot 17:37, 8 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Absolutely, you're correct, and thank you for the reminder—I had done so for Emma Watson, and intended to do the same for Messrs. Grint and Radcliffe, but got busy elsewhere. Lemme see if I have a few moments. :) RadioKirk talk to me 18:53, 8 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Second Name: Alexander vs. Michael

edit

What is the real second name? Warner and IMDb say Alexander, but Google says Michael (11.000:200). --Seewolf 08:21, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well since Warner Bros. "owns" Mr. Grint, they can technically call him Billy-Bob if they wish. Seriously though, since Grint works for WB - you can take WB as verifiable WP:V and as a reliable source WP:RS , and the IMDb simply gets the official info from the studio and unofficial info from elsewhere. If WB gets it wrong, Grint can correct it. What is Google's source? Some random fan site or blog page run by an obsessed Grint fan (also) named "Rupert Michael" who wants to impress his classmates? --T-dot 10:02, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

well just because you dont feel comfortable with it doesn't mean it shouldn't be included. There was an allegation and therefore it should be included as an 'allegation'. its the same with any other article. im sorry, i think there should be a reference. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.153.14.252 (talkcontribs)

Radio Kirk didn't say he wasn't confortable with allegation (who wouldn't be), he said he wasn't comfortable with including it here. To me sounds like he's trying to say that he thought about it and decided not to, rather than express his feelings about the incident itself. I happen to agree. So far as i know, there's been no suggestion that the incident involves Grint. Perhaps if that had been suggested, as in the Michael Barrymore swimming pool case, then perhaps it would merit inclusion. but as is, i think not. user: Amoammo

Quite correct. One, The Daily Mail is a tabloid; two, the accusation it prints is peripheral to Grint at best. Wikipedia is not a newspaper. RadioKirk (u|t|c) 18:11, 3 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Right then, in that case I'll delete the section in the Russell Brand section about rape claims as he was cleared of being involved in a supposed rape at his rented flat in edinburgh. This seems to be a similar situation to Grint therefore should not be included. Mitoy11 16:20, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Rupert Alexander Lloyd Grint"?

Unless a Wiki-editor, or some other kind soul, takes Mr. Grint's picture and then provides it freely to the Wikipedia, then we are stuck at "because". Freely provided images of living persons can be posted, with the permission of the photographer or creator, under the Image Use policy. Images created by and for the press, or by professional photographers, or by others who own the copyright on the image, such as those found on most web sites, fall under the Wikipedia's Fair Use policy, which forbids posting "An image of a living person that merely shows what they look like." --T-dot (Talk | contribs) 16:47, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Protect this article from tampering

edit

Due to the release of the next Harry Potter film on Wednesday, July 11th, It may be a wise idea to prevent non registered people from editing this article to protect against any excessive vandalism that may occur as a result of the article being unprotected.

Deity of Battle 22:06, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Jimmy Wales has stated that articles should not be proactively blocked for fear of future vandalism (most of it will be focused on the book's page). The RC patrol is always checking for changes, and all Rubert Grint regulars have to make sure to warn the vandals, as most stop after one warning. If vandalism increases, the page should be semi-protected as that should be enough (hopefully). dr.alf 02:37, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lead

edit

Lead does not follow WP guideline: see Lead.

The lead should be capable of standing alone as a concise overview of the article, establishing context, summarizing the most important points, explaining why the subject is interesting or notable, and briefly describing its notable controversies, if there are any. The emphasis given to material in the lead should roughly reflect its importance to the topic according to reliable, published sources. The lead should not "tease" the reader by hinting at but not explaining important facts that will appear later in the article. It should contain up to four paragraphs, should be carefully sourced as appropriate, and should be written in a clear, accessible style so as to invite a reading of the full article.

Cheers! Wassupwestcoast 17:18, 1 September 2007 (UTC) Note: This is not vandalism, but the is an 'unknown' movie in Britian and it is called Fart Boy or Thunderpants that Rupert Grint starred in. I am wondering why this is not on his bio? Sense

edit

There's something odd in the "Early life" subsection (1.1). Anthony DiFiore is his brother, yet he has only one brother, James? Or is DiFiore the brother of Nigel, Rupert's father?

After the name of Anthony DiFiore, is this not the start of a new sentence, referring to DiFiore? This bit's reading as if some copying and pasting has been done and not cleaned up. I haven't, therefore, tried to correct it.

What is an "actor dealer"?

We also say his father is "a memorabilia". A memorabilia dealer? An antiquary/antiquarian/antiques dealer?

Place of birth

According to birth records, Grint was born in Harlow, Essex, not Hertfordshire. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 12:00, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

If you can provide a reliable source for this, then we'll change the info. :-) -Duribald (talk) 13:10, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Here is the search result I got on findmypast.com. I did it because on the Stevenage page, Grint was listed as being born in Stevenage, but here it only said Hertfordshire. Then I searched the internet and people on a forum were saying Harlow and Watton-at-Stone. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 15:40, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
As someone who was born in Hertfordshire, I'll throw my two pennies worth in. If Grint's parents were resident in Watton-at-Stone when he was born, the likelihood is that he was born at Lister Hospital (it's in Stevenage and it's the nearest to Watton). The other Herts option would be QEII in Welwyn Garden City. If he was Harlow, it would be Princess Alexandra Hospital, but this would usually be an unlikely option for a family living in that part of Hertfordshire. I have absolutely no idea which is correct, but if anyone wants to research it, those might help with narrowing down search results :). Sky83 (talk) 15:51, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
EDIT:If he was born in Watton-at-Stone, it would've been a home birth, it's a tiny village with no hospital. Sky83 (talk) 15:52, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
I live in Stevenage and was born in WGC so I know a Watton-at-Stone birth would have been a home birth and that Lister and QEII are the closest hospitals. But if his birth was registered in Harlow (which it appears it was) would that usually mean he was born in that district? AnemoneProjectors (talk) 17:38, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
It would be odd for a Herts family to go all the way to Harlow to register a birth if that's not where the birth took place, even if it was possible to do so. This seems to suggest that a Herts birth has to be registered in Herts, but whether that would've been the same 20 or so years back, I don't know. On the other hand this Essex site appears to suggest that it's possible to register a birth anywhere. This may be a mystery that we can't solve lol. Sky83 (talk) 19:55, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Unless of course there is a more reliable source out there. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 20:41, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
True. This may well come down to seeing his birth cert lol. Sky83 (talk) 21:16, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Have a look at their about us page. Their information comes directly from the births, marriages and death indexes held at... wherever they're held (The National Archives?). AnemoneProjectors (talk) 12:21, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

  1. "Grint starred in his first non-Harry Potter movie: Thunderpants, a 2002 family film, which details around Patrick (played by Bruce Cook) whose remarkable capacity for flatulence scores him a job as an astronaut." There's two problems with this sentence. First, "Grint starred in his first non-Harry Potter movie: Thunderpants, a 2002 family film," is indigestable and should be reworded (for example, you could write "In 2002, Grint... etc). Second, by "details around", don't you mean "revolves around"?
Done Crystal Clear x3 19:34, 17 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

  1. "Grint, on the other hand, is a revelation" and he "displays an innate naturalness mixed with personal charisma that turn a potentially pathetic" character into a more likable and comedic person, wrote ALT Film Guide's Andre Soares. He added that in the final confrontation between Ben and his, "Grint delivers his lines with such honesty that he makes them ring true. Only a veritably accomplished actor can manage such a feat." First of all, the italicized part seems a bit redundant, as the previous part sums up the reviewer's opinion about Grint's performance well. Also, why is "character into a more likable and comedic person" not included in the quote?
I've removed the last part. I did not include the other part in the quote because I reworded it from: "that turn a potentially pathetic Christian freak into a humorous, thoroughly likable — if more than a little awkward — young man caught between the dogmatic brainwashing perpetrated by his well-intentioned but psychopathic mother and his need to grow into his own person." I thought it was good to mention that the reviewer praised him for doing that with his character, but found it to be quite long. Crystal Clear x3 19:34, 17 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
  1. "Principal photography started the following month and the project," What month? The previous sentence only mentions the year Grint was cast. Also, add a comma after "month".
Done Crystal Clear x3 19:34, 17 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
  1. "This will be his first movie following the end of the Harry Potter series." This sentence has no reference. Also, as with number 2, "his first movie" implies that he somehow directed or owns the film.

I wanted to add "Laura Devine, Keech fundraiser, said, “We are delighted Rupert has chosen to support his local hospice charity, especially because many of the children we care for are big fans of the Harry Potter star” [1]. While many other American big stars spend a lot of their time promoting larger charities concerned with world-wide social issues, Rupert promotes smaller local charities. This is not to say his charity work is not important; on the contrary, as Devine points out, his involvement with Keech is a testament to how his roles as a celebrity connects him with the children he is promoting. The character Rupert plays, Ron Weasley, makes it easier for the actor to build a closer relationship with his young fans. Also, the artwork he produced stresses a more hands on and personal approach than simply donating money. Rupert’s involvement in local and national charities affirms his down-to-earth and sweet reputation." Vandrea90 (talk) 15:47, 25 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Their appearance, while brief, gives the program a strong foothold in promoting themselves and gaining more donators who are loyal to the actors." Vandrea90 (talk) 15:47, 25 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Well, that's not the only problem with "awareness for how important it is to have your daily dose of milk", since you can only increase "awareness" of something that's indisputably true, and it's mostly the milk sellers that want to convince people there's any such "importance" in daily intake - it's especially dubious in that the ads seem to make no age distinctions (lactose intolerance increases with age) and don't address the question of lactose intolerance/lactase deficiency at all (the incidence of which is roughly 25% in white populations, and 75-90% among black, Native American, and Asian populations—roughly 75% of the world is lactose intolerant!) Something more like "seeks to increase milk sales by touting its supposed nutritional value" would seem to be more in order. - Nunh-huh 23:44, 13 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please change this: The Movie maked worldwide US$3.4 million.[47]

To this: The Movie made US$3.4 million worldwide.[47]

Because: "maked" is not the past tense of "make"

BLP sources reverted

edit

Hi, I have reverted today's revisions due to WP:BLPPRIMARY and WP:RS. Birth records cannot be used in this way, and rupertgrint.net is a nice-looking but unofficial fansite and of questionable reliability. Elizium23 (talk) 03:52, 11 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I agree that birth records cannot be used as a source but they at least suggest there is an error. Place of birth should be removed re WP:BLP as no info is preferable to dodgy info according to the policy. Span (talk) 06:59, 11 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
I brought this up above (#Place of birth) and agree that we should remove his place of birth. We can't even seem to agree on a county. –anemoneprojectors14:15, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Check Quotation Syntax tag

edit

There's a "check quotation syntax" tag on the following text:

"After completing the final film he said: "I mean it literally has been my childhood and suddenly it all came down to really just one random scene, with us jumping through a fireplace, and then it was over. [...] But because you shoot out of sequence, it's often just 'Turn left, cross the room, okay, that's a wrap.' And you're done. [...] Yeah, it's very odd. Because suddenly it was all over, just like that. It was really emotional for all of us, realising that we're never going to be doing this again.[5] [check quotation syntax]"

Looking at the referenced link, the quote is from a Q & A session, with part of the supplied "quoted" text coming from questions, and part of it from his answers to those questions. The non-quote text is a significant portion of the total text however. It's a bit unclear to me as to how this should be best quoted here. One suggestion would be to remove the text from the questions, but then part of the context of the quote is lost. The other option would be to put the "question" text in square brackets, thus indicating that this text is not part of the quote.

As it stands, not all of the text quoted is from Grint, and the tag is indeed correct.

I'll have a look at formatting it with square brackets, but would appreciate review on the outcome, and removal of the tag if appropriate.

In the end, I've removed all of the non-quote text, I think it still makes sense without it :-) Mikeholden (talk) 01:14, 5 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
