Still a veterans group? edit

I would like everyone to consider whether we should still call the Legion a veterans' association or a group for "veterans" considering that they now allow anyone to join. I would prefer we update their description to be something along the lines of them being a non-profit association that is open to all Canadians that attempts to honour and represent veterans. Thoughts? Gentek16 (talk) 00:20, 23 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hats? edit

Years ago, I stopped buying poppies when the local branch made a fuss about not allowing yamakas or turbans. However they did allow baseball caps and other hats. What is the current situation? I have been overseas for the last couple decades. This Wikipedia entry really should include this controversial topic. At the moment the entry seems to be more of a pamphlet for a club. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.77.195.120 (talk) 08:10, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

No hats allowed IIRC. —PaleoNeonate – 00:00, 12 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

- I think each Branch decides. My branch recently decided to allow hats, while nearby ones still do not.

GWVA and other groups edit

I removed the statement that the GWVA was Canada's earliest national veterans association. There were other earlier organizations, such as His Majesty's Army and Navy Veterans, established in 1887.--Ian mckenzie (talk) 18:41, 4 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

I noticed the American Legion Page lists as a Subsidiary "American Legion Riders". This a motorcycle riders group. The Royal Canadian Legion supports a riders organization for some time now simply known as the "Legion Riders". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.178.140.165 (talk) 22:43, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

The article states that the Dominion Veterans Alliance was formed in 1925, but it was referred to in testimony to a House of Commons committee in 1922.[1] Man1t0ba (talk) 21:57, 16 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Citation or awards edit

Does the head legion give awards or citations to legion halls? If they do, can a person nominate a legion for a award or citation? I would greatfully like to hear your response. Thank you. 159.2.59.134 (talk) 17:37, 14 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
