English surname? I seriously doubt that. The anglo-saxon theory under 2. fails to state that surnames developed long after the Norman conquest. Pronunciation
editI question the pronunciation given, at least as the only or predominate one. The given (/rɒθ/) renders the O as in body. The pronunciation (/rɔθ/) with the O as in frog or the OU in bought is at least as common if not more. Venqax (talk) 15:17, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
