Could someone add to Rotary Switches and explain the difference between "shorting" and "non-shorting"?

I believe shorting vs non-shoring is the same as "make-before-break" vs. "make-after-break".

One thing on this page is wrong: "The switch is layered to allow the use of multiple poles, each layer is equivalent to one pole." This is not right, as it is possible to have more than one pole on a layer (better known as a "deck"). This is done by having more than one arm/spoke (I think these are called actuators ?) on each deck. One issue that is a bit mysterious to me is that there are eg single pole switches that have multiple decks. Could someone make clear what is going on with this? I'm wondering if these are simply multi-pole switches that have all the poles connected together into one (?) DiagonalArg (talk) 08:52, 4 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
