Does notoriety not qualify as notability in certain biographical cases where generating broad awareness of an individual's activities might prevent people from being hurt?

Regarding references and potential libel -- isn't a column in a daily newspaper considered to be a valid source, especially considering the lack of material available due to the intentional obfuscation by the man at the centre of this particular story?

To establish notability the article needs to cite reliable secondary source material. So far you have some references to the Vancouver Sun, which is fine, but it would be good to see some from other similar publications to show why he should be notable to people outside Vancouver. If he is as rich or controversial as you suggest, might he not have been reported on by some national news organisation? --Pontificalibus (talk) 19:30, 6 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello Pontificalibus Thanks for your response. David Baines at The Vancouver Sun is the originating source, and Vanc. Sun is part of the CanWest chain of papers, which includes other city dailies as well as the National Post. I thought to include Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal and National Post citations, but they are all essentially the same article, credited to David Baines. Would including these papers in the list of references get me off this particular hook?

Ok, I've made changes to my references to reflect the broad scope of interest in R.H. Stanfield recently, and added more external links. I rolled the text from the Stanfield Mining Group article in as the second paragraph. How am I doing so far?

It's great that you have found multiple sources. These articles from different news organisations seem sufficient to establish notability, so I will remove the notability tag. However I still have one concern. Every single article is written by the same person, David Baines. This is slightly unusual so I would still like to see some additional sources for verification. --Pontificalibus (talk) 10:48, 7 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hewison, I appreciate your wish to keep information on this page current but it is styled like a newspaper article, especially your subtitle, and it rambles. Further, considering that references are numbered sequentially starting at the top of the page and proceeding downward, it seems logical to place subsequent references below the last one entered. My original article was similarly edited by Pontificalibus, a Wikipedia editor. I am simply trying to follow his lead and good example. - DB Dorothy Bathstead (talk) 15:27, 7 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
