My rationale for assessment:

  • Eurasia's top energy deal (in terms of both econonomy and geostrategy)
  • superprofitable & hypernon-trasparent company, allegedly linked to organized crime, arguably the largest mafia enterprise

Transports natural gas

Does RosUkrEnergo actually "transport" any gas, or is it merely a middleman or reseller? Michael Z. 2007-07-31 16:30 Z

RosUkrEnergo is owned by a business ally of the Viktor Yushchenko

edit

says International Herald Tribune on January 9, 2009. But I read the source but for me it's not clear if they just quite Putin or that they have other source(s) who tell them RosUkrEnergo is owned by a business ally of the Viktor Yushchenko. It is an accusation which is quite heavy and I never heard it before... Basicly Putin or International Herald Tribune is saying Yushchenko is a not reliable (at best...) — Mariah-Yulia (talk) 16:47, 10 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Seconded: RosUkrEnergo is owned by a business ally of the Viktor Yushchenko??

I'm not sure if it's deliberate or a merely an oversight, but the manner in which this entry is written is probably defamatory.

The issue is that Dmitry Firtash is the RosUkrEnergo partner most commonly linked to Yushchenko, and even that link is not proved. http://www.sptimes.ru/index.php?action_id=2&story_id=17465

It seems that at least the two men have at least been introduced, but, according to Reuters, RosUkrEnergo "has denied allegations that top Ukrainian or Russian politicians have commercial interests or benefit from its activities".

http://www.forexpros.com/news/commodities-&-futures-news/factbox-rue:-a-mystery-player-in-russia-ukraine-gas-row-17703

However, because the business ally at the top remains unnamed and then Tymoshenko is quoted referring to Semyon Mogilevich, a reader of this Wikipedia entry might reasonably believe that the unnamed business ally of Yushchenko was Semyon Mogilevich. Wikipedia's own entry on Mogilevich is tagged with warnings, but clearly he is a man with a few question marks over him at least. Yushchenko and Mogilevich may or may not have links, but there's no proof, and without proof I don't think you can impute a link to a man wanted by the FBI without being defamatory of Yushchenko.

Additionally, if you're going to include Tymoshenko's allegations on Semyon Mogilevich (footnote 5), made in November 2006, surely in the interests of fairness and balance you you have to include Mogilevich's denials of any relationship with RosUkrEnergo, plus RosUkrEnergo's and Firtash's denials of links to Mogilevich. Tymoshenko's claims were made when she was trying to take action against gas intermediaries. It was probably an entirely valid political move on her part, but remember it did suit her to paint them as criminal. http://www.globalinsight.com/SDA/SDADetail11442.htm

When quoting Izvestia on a gas-related story, it's probably worthwhile mentioning that Gazprom owns a controlling stake in the newspaper.

It's a certainly a murky area, and this entry isn't very balanced.
