Talk:Root Double: Before Crime * After Days

Synopsis section edit

What is the reasoning for the changes made in the "Synopsis" section?

  1. The wording changes take away significant details that are essential to the story and setting itself:
    1. Rokumei City needs to be stated that it is a fictional location in Japan, not left dubious on whether it is real, based on real, or fictional. Furthermore, the fact that the "Japanese" government is brought up later, where there is no mention of locale before it, makes it awkward and sounds like an assumption was made.
    2. The wording change on BC explanation now does not explain what it is clearly nor does it explain its existence. For example: How did BC came about? Why did people fear it? BC is a critical element in the story and the explanation should be expanded, not minimized.
  2. The story synopsis should be moved further upward in order to make the paragraphs flow in order. The way it is now, there is no explanation for why Watase is sent to LABO nor does it explain what the accident is.
  3. Characters should have their own section that would explain them in detail of who they are. --Spinwhirl (talk) 12:07, 12 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • I may have removed some detail that should not have been removed when trying to condense the section - Rokumei being a Japanese fictional city does indeed seem important - so I'm not against some of that being added back in. We should however keep WP:VGSCOPE in mind - keep plot information concise, keep character information to one to three paragraphs under the synopsis section, and focus on real-world information (development, release, reception). I don't know about moving the plot summary up - you'd want the reader to understand the setting and characters first, so that they understand the world and characters, and then go on with describing the LABO incident in the plot summary.--IDVtalk 12:23, 12 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
WP:VGSCOPE is important but so is writing organization such that it flows and presenting enough information such that the synopsis makes sense for someone who has never read the novel before. Right now, it hops around describing LABO, BC and the start of the plot (the accident) in an unorganized fashion and is incoherent.
I agree that the setting and characters should go first before the story, but that is why the information about the accident in LABO should not be in the section when discussing the characters as the accident is story content, not character content. Furthermore, I propose the setting should be separate from the characters. The setting should only be about Rokumei City, small information about BC to incorporate the idea that the city is established for Communicators, followed by what LABO is. Following that section should be "Main characters", which is a summary of the main characters in each route. Finally, the story comes last.--Spinwhirl (talk) 03:33, 13 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
I split up the setting and character sections while leaving the previous section commented out in case it needs to be referenced back while we review it. As I said, the rationale for doing this is so the article needs to flow and not hop around. The changes are as follows:
1. The date setting is removed since the story section has it and it is redundant info. This allows the BC info to be integrated to the paragraph without worrying about time details. It means the setting section is now focused on Rokumei City and hopefully answers questions it previously raised (e.g. "why can't the residents interact with the outside world?").
2. The main characters section describe the characters without connecting them to the LABO incident. The section is kept to three paragraphs, per WP:VGSCOPE, though it could possibly be expanded slightly further. --Spinwhirl (talk) 06:24, 13 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
