Archbishop of Philadelphia and Diocese Leadership

The Archbishop of Philadelphia is not part of the church leadership. While the diocese is suffragan see of Philadelphia, the Archbishop of Philadelphia has no role to play except in the case of vacancy (like we say) and if there is an appeal in some matters of church law.

But, in the day to day management, when the good monseigneur got a new miter, the leadership of the archbishop ended. The archbishop is not pictured on the Diocese's own page (http://www.dioceseofscranton.org) with the other bishops nor is he mentioned in the directory.

If someone can show that I am incorrect, please do so. Perhaps you can show that a majority of suffragan dioceses have their metropoliton bishops as part of their leadership, please show that.

I don't even know if the former bishops should be listed as part of the church leadership. I don't even know if still is in the diocese. In response to comments about "leadership": The category I see corresponds to what catholic-hierarchy calls "affiliated bishops, living", except that that category also includes Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo, who did serve here as auxiliary but later served as Bishop of Honolulu and (current at this writing) Bishop of Richmond.

I also noticed some of the dates are wrong. Bambera was ordained and installed in April, but his appointment was eariler in the year. Likewise, some of the earlier bishops were appointed before they were installed. I think most of the dates should be changed so that they reflect the dates that were installed rather than the dates that the appointments were made before they were in office. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.112.3.204 (talk) 23:20, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Scranton Prep

Not sure why Prep is being removed from list of high schools. I know it's not operated by the diocese, but the section refers to Catholic education and Prep is a Catholic school. It's also noted as being operated independently of the diocese. Thoughts? -Tomdobb (talk) 05:38, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Many Diocese across the country have Catholic high schools that are not operated by the Diocese. They are still listed on the Diocese wiki page. Scranton belongs on this list. EagleFan (talk) 15:08, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Catholic education

Recent addition to this section is POV, doesn't cite sources. It discusses a highly contentious topic but fails to present both sides of the argument nor does it cite any sources for several inflammatory statements. I have removed and warned user twice before, but he or she has elected to ignore warnings and wikipedia policy regarding a neutral point of view and accurately citing sources. To avoid ongoing edit war, I've left this addition in the article and tagged it. I'd like to reach consensus on what should be done here. Tomdobb (talk) 13:18, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Society of St. John

The Society of St. John (SSJ) is a clerical association in the Diocese of Scranton whose local presence became controversial after allegations appeared about child abuse by some of its members. The association could maybe deserve a stub because of the previous controversy. [1] ADM (talk) 09:22, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Didn't Bishop Martino, before he stepped down, remove the recognition extended by this Diocese to that Society? By the way, please check the abbreviation used for that Society, because SSJ is used for the Josephite order, unrelated to that Society.

In the catholic-hierarchy site, I find these bishops, not already included in this wikipedia article, who are now deceased and who were auxiliary bishops of this diocese:

Andrew James Louis Brennan † (Priest: 17 Dec 1904; Auxiliary Bishop: 23 Feb 1923 to 28 May 1926)

Henry Theophilus Klonowski † (Priest: 8 Aug 1920; Auxiliary Bishop: 10 May 1947 to 15 May 1973)

Martin John O’Connor † (Priest: 15 Mar 1924; Auxiliary Bishop: 14 Nov 1942 to 26 Nov 1946)

(Martin John O'Connor, not to be confused with John Joseph O'Connor, already has an article on Wikipedia.)

And a living former auxiliary bishop of Scranton is Francis X. DiLorenzo, who is now Bishop of Richmond.

Word arrived today that Joseph R. Kopacz, a priest of this diocese, has been appointed bishop of Jackson, Mississippi.
