A "yeoman" effort is basically asking the average person to not understand what it means. Its not only a mostly unused word, but a hard one to find a comparable definition for. Unless I'm missing something, baseball has little to do with free English farmers or the King's Archery law for quickly drafting trained Longbowmen. How about "an early relief appearance" instead?
