Talk:Rodolfo Pio da Carpi
Pius III
editSomething seriously wrong here: "His friend Pius III assigned him his choice of sees; he preferred the delightful see of Frascati to Faenza (1553 – 1555). Only the intractable resistance of his feudal superior, cardinal d'Este prevented his being made pope at the conclave of 1559."
Pius III died in 1503. Is Paul III meant? Is the friendship transferable? The meaning of 'preferred the See of Frascati' may be misunderstood. He had been Cardinal Priest of S. Maria in Trastevere (1544-1553), and was 'preferred' Bishop of Albano on 29 November 1553; he was then promoted ('preferred') to Frascati (Tusculum) on 11 December 1553; he was then 'preferred' to the See of Porto on 29 May 1555. If one really means 'he preferred the delightful see of Frascati', then he was quickly disabused and moved on after 18 months. But that is not what is meant. He had been Bishop of Faenza from 13 November 1528, and he passed the diocese to his brother Teodoro.
