Sources: Request of Help edit
There are many sources on "the killing of US ambassador Rodger P. Davies". Although newspapers of the epoch are not widely in internet, a simple Google search with the words within commas yields us to several news reports. (For example: Boca raton News(paper) on 19 August 1974) We should use those sources for reference in this article. I have never opened a "references" section by myself until today but I will try it after work. If any experienced user, especially those interested in Cyprus affairs does it before me, will be appreciated. --E4024 (talk) 11:44, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Article inconsistent with corresponding sources. edit
The following needs to be corrected:
"It is alleged he was killed by Greek Cypriot gunmen during an anti-American demonstration outside the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia,[2] where an estimated 300–600 Greek Cypriots were "demonstrating against the U.S.’s failure" to stop the Turkish invasion of Cyprus,[3] which they perceived as the United States siding with Turkey.[4]"
First, source #2 does not explicitly state that Davies was killed by the mob but rather "during" the storming of the Embassy by protesters. However, source #4 clearly states that Davies was not killed by any of the protestersbut most likely from a sniper who was shooting from a nearby building through Davies' open windows. Therefore it is impossible to ascertain beyond any reasonable doubt the identity or the assassin let alone his national allegiance. It is wrong therefore to blame the Greek-Cypriot protesters for that heinous crime.
Second, nowhere in sources #3 and especially #4 can be found that "they [Greek-Cypriots] perceived as the United States siding with Turkey" as it stated in the main article. Therefore, the exact quote from these sources should replace the offending statement above which is the product of bias/interpretation by whomever the writer is.
