Does anyone know if this is the same Robert Paul who met with Charles Lechmere after the Polly Nicholes murder?

edit

If it is, then I think it should be added to the article. Nothing mentioned in the article really rules him out. He lived in the correct country. He lived in the correct time period. Does anyone know? 71.179.173.156 (talk) 21:49, 22 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Birthplace

edit

- Birth registers show Paul, Robert William born in 1869 Q4 in the Islington registration district. At the time, this included, inter alia, Barnsbury, Canonbury, Highbury and Lower Holloway.

- There is no source to support the current statement that he was born in Liverpool Road.

- There is no source for the Who’s Who of Victorian Cinema claim that he was born in 3 Albion Place, off Liverpool Road, Highbury. Note that Liverpool Road is not in Highbury.

- Albion Place no longer bears that name. Streets with a Story, the definitive reference for the history of Islington’s streets, has three likely candidates for Albion Place in 1869:

  • Canonbury (by 1866 had become nos 96-102 Canonbury Road)
  • Holloway (by 1866 had become nos 81-107 Holloway Road)
  • Thornhill Road (by 1870 became nos 3-17 Thornhill Road)

The last two locations are roughly equidistant from Liverpool Road.

Overall, Paul’s birthplace needs better sourcing, so I’m changing it to Islington. Masato.harada (talk) 10:00, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
