Good to have a friendly/admiring biographer. Of more recent vintage: "Laycock was in our eyes a society cavalryman with a close and exclusive interest in his own career; he was a bullshitter of the highest order. For him the Rommel raid was a no-lose situation. If it was successful, then by going along he would get credit, and if it wasn't, then by staying on the beach he would almost certainly be in a position to get out." --Lt.
