editHelp with this article would be appreciated. Can anyone furnish references about his birth and death dates, or his Harvard career? Jim Heaphy (talk) 02:56, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- I'll do what I can by checking the academic literature maybe he wrote a few reviews or a book or two, but as it stands this is an impressive article.--OMCV (talk) 03:16, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- This states when Miriam died [1] sounds like she was pretty damn impressive.
- I also found the following at [2] but its not a WP:RS.
- "(1.2.5.3.9.2.3.1.3) ROBERT LINDLEY MURRAY UNDERHILL born March 3, 1889 Ossining NY; 1919 Harvard U Department of Philosophy; mountain climber; 1976 resided Randolph NH; plenty info on the “net under Robert L.M. Underhill; married January 25, 1933 in Dedham MA, Miriam Eliot O’Brien [dau of Robert Lincoln & Emily Ayers (Young) O’Brien] born July 22, 1898 and died 1976; she was a mountain climber, first woman to climb the Matterhorn, “guideless and manless”; and they had 2 kids"
- I'll keep looking for a RS.--OMCV (talk) 03:30, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- [3] this has the needed info I think.--OMCV (talk) 03:46, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Definition of "bobs" from Urban Dictionary
editI am deleting the newly added comment about "bobs" being slang for trekking poles, and named after Robert L. M. Underhill, for the following reasons:
1. The reference offered is the Urban Dictionary, which is not considered a reliable source:
Resolved. Neither UrbanDictionary.com nor its published derivative works are a Reliable Source according to the website owner/book "author's" own remarks in which he clearly states: "Urban Dictionary doesn’t require definitions to be objective or factual. Lots of definitions are extremely subjective or provably wrong!...It wasn’t heavily researched or fact-checked...There are a lot of joke definitions ...per Aaron Peckham, owner/compiler of Urban Dictionary products discussing his published "Urban Dictionary" book.[45] "
Source: Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 37
2. The user EMPLOYERS who added this material on October 8, 2009 has had several articles deleted for failing to follow Wikipedia policy, as the articles were just advertising or promotion. The "bobs" definition was created on October 5, 2009 by Urban Dictionary user "The Desert Dilettante", and is the only definition on that website created by that user. A Reno, NV resident named Robert Charpientier has a Twitter account and describes himself: "Just another desert dilettante writing about life in the dust." He twitters that he is working on a website called employers.com. I believe that this person both created the definition and edited this article. It is not reliable information, so I am deleting it. Antisemitism
editThere is need to acknowledge Robert's antisemitic views, especially in view of what he stated regarding the climbing abilities of Jews. 2601:192:8800:3780:EC29:3640:450E:EAC (talk) 19:25, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
