War Service

edit

If the entry authors are here, I recommend Fagles biography to include his military service as an OSS officer in Italy during the Second World War leading Italian partisans against the German army, an experience he related to in the preface for his translation of the Aeneid. It is a significant autobiographical detail and he credits his wartime experience of finding a copy of the Aeneid on the battlefield as an inspiration for his scholarly work on Vergil.

He's recently died http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/29/books/29fagles.html?_r=1&ref=obituaries&oref=slogin Someone who isn't me should probably fix this. By which I mean the wiki entry, not raising him from the dead. Although that'd be nice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.154.148.56 (talk) 19:12, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.
