Comma? edit

Grammar would usually imply that the title "Ripon College Cuddesdon" should have a comma: "Ripon College, Cuddesdon". Is it the College's policy not to use a comma in its name? Tamino 19:43, 31 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that is correct. According to normal usage, "Ripon College, Cuddesdon" would mean that the name of the establishment was "Ripon College" and it was located in Cuddesdon. In fact it is never (or almost never) called "Ripon College" - any shortening of the name is usually to "Cuddesdon". Omitting the comma also means that both parent institutions (Cuddesdon College and Ripon Hall) are included in the name, with neither being subsidiary to the other. (Perhaps a mention of that needs to be worked into the article.) Vilĉjo 09:31, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Is it actually a Permanent Private Hall? edit

The article Permanent Private Hall does not list Ripon College Cuddesdon as a PPH. Is it actually a PPH? Tamino 20:49, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not according to the Statutes of the University of Oxford. Alexsdutton (talk) 15:27, 2 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

catholic tradition edit

Could someone please clarify what is intended here as it sounds a bit of an oxymoron to talk of catholic tradition in Church of England. is this a reference to 'high church' type formal pomp and ritual or a more fundamental one saying it has links to the catholic church?Fattutor (talk) 11:08, 19 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
