Merge into album edit

Singles are NOT notable, but they MAY be notable. At present this article appears to fail WP:NSONGS and should be merged into the album. If the song should become notable then the article should exist, until then... --Richhoncho (talk) 21:12, 17 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Singles released by major recording artists are usually covered in terms of notability, especially if they have a corresponding music video and sources to back them up. The article needs improvement, obviously, but redirecting is a bit too bold in this case. Ringtone (song) meets the criteria. Friginator (talk) 21:32, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Here's the full quote from WP:NSONGS "Most songs do not rise to notability for an independent article and should redirect to another relevant article, such as for the songwriter, a prominent album or for the artist who prominently performed the song. Songs that have been ranked on national or significant music charts, that have won significant awards or honors or that have been performed independently by several notable artists, bands or groups are probably notable. Notability aside, a separate article on a song is only appropriate when there is enough verifiable material to warrant a reasonably detailed article; articles unlikely ever to grow beyond stubs should be merged to articles about an artist or album. If the artist associated with the work does not have an article, or if the artist's article has already been deleted, an article about a musical recording that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant is eligible for speedy deletion under criterion A9." If this song passes above, then it shouldn't be a redirect or even A9. --Richhoncho (talk) 21:40, 17 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

First off, parts of the section you're quoting only applies to songs that haven't been released independently as singles. Note that it says "songs" and not "singles". And secondly, the single isn't part of any album, so redirecting it back to the Internet Leaks collection isn't really appropriate. Almost every single from a major recording artist such as "Weird Al" Yankovic has its own article. If the song wasn't a single, and didn't have a music video, and didn't have its own artwork, and didn't have sources to back it up, then I would agree. So yes, Ringtone meets the criteria. Which is why the section is headed "Albums, singles and songs?" Yes? I asked you to consider reverting your edit, not convinced you have considered, but I think you have made your opinion clear enough. --Richhoncho (talk) 22:18, 17 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry if I seem stubborn about this, but I just don't see any reason to get rid of the article, and there seems to be little to nothing wrong with keeping it the way it is. Also, I understand that the section is called "Albums, singles and songs," but the parts you're quoting mention songs in particular. It doesn't say a thing about singles whatsoever. It's talking about songs by themselves, and makes that perfectly clear. That last sentence doesn't apply to this situation at all, so I don't know why you're quoting it either. Which part of, under the general heading of "Albums, singles and songs" which reads "Songs that have been ranked on national or significant music charts, that have won significant awards or honors or that have been performed independently by several notable artists, bands or groups are 'probably' notable. If it passes muster on any of those grounds perhaps you'd like to edit the article accordingly. I'm out of here. --Richhoncho (talk) 22:46, 17 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I don't think you understand what I'm talking about. That refers to individual songs, not EPs, singles or albums. We're discussing a single. Friginator (talk) 00:47, 18 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
So why then does the sub-heading specifically refer to singles? Please read the guidelines yourself. --Richhoncho (talk) 08:42, 18 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
There is nothing notable about this song that it requires it's own article. This applies to just about all the Internet Leaks tracks. We do not need a separate article for each.Spman (talk) 01:22, 18 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
This whole redirecting, reverting thing wasn't done right (Bold isn't right), there isn't any consensus, and I agree with Fridge--this is a single with a music video, which clearly meets the criteria, so I'm recreating it. Shoot me Purplebackpack89 (talk) 00:06, 25 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

--Richhoncho (talk) 17:21, 25 October 2009 (UTC)== Music videos and notability. ==Reply

Before reverting it would be a good idea to show me where a music video creates automatic notability in WP guidelines. --Richhoncho (talk) 07:35, 25 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Music video + single + notable artist = notability. Also bold edit + edit war = wrong policy. You should have created an AFD, as I will do, and you and SPMan closed the discussion far too early...you should've waited like a week, instead of 24 hours, unless everybody wants to delete or keep. My recreation was as much about boched policy by you and SPMan as about notability Purplebackpack89 (talk) 15:06, 25 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I put the merge tag on 3rd October, SPMan completed the merge on the 17th. That, according to my calculations is TWO weeks. Then another editor comes along and decides he can overrule everybody else. Please read the history. --Richhoncho (talk) 17:21, 25 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
