Pictures

I was thinking of using pictures of a wedding cake waterfall (the RGSP Geology Guide uses FL Ricketts as an example, and this is Huntley Mounhtain Formation, which would be a bonus). For a bridal veil waterfall it uses Harrison Wright as the example, and the current lead image File:Rglenn05.jpg does show the layes of Catskill Formation rock nicely. Then the first image would be Pocono Formation and Midway Crevasse, the next two would be two main waterfall types and next two rock formations. I think there will be room for the plunge pool too, as the fourth image. What do you think? Ruhrfisch _><>°^° 23:07, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

I think Geology is done. I did not have room for the plunge pool image though. I tried to add some things not in the Waterfalls geology (other two rock formations, Grand View) but also had less detail on the glaciers and erosion. Does it seem OK? Are the images OK? The pictures and the geology section look pretty good. I think we should include the video of the falls or perhaps someone could take a better video of the falls. ;) Dincher (talk) 17:31, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Organization

If we follow the model of Black Mo for discussing the Glens Natural Area, it would be a subsection of the Ecology section and essentially where we talk about trees and other plants (Flora). Thanks - those are great finds! I emailed you some PDFs of New York Times articles on the park - one is about the National Park (1935) and the other is about it becoming a state park (1941) plus a few more. I was going to add the development of the turnpike (PA 487) and the two squatters at Lakes Rose and Leigh from Petrillo's book to the Early inhabitants section of History. Lumber era

I am debating whether or not to include a lumber era section for this article. I think it's fine without it, considering that we don't have much specifics about lumbering in the area like we did with Black Mo and the parks at Pine Creek Gorge. Dincher (talk) 22:30, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

I reread the chapter on Ricketts in Ghost Towns of North Mountain by F. Charles Petrillo - it has a lot of detail on the town, but not much on what they cut when. (It does mention the Cherry Ridge section in the northern part of the park and logging railroads stretching south.) I want to check Ghost Lumber Towns of Central Pennsylvania: Laquin, Masten, Ricketts, Grays Run by Thomas Townsend Taber out of a library again and see what it has to say on Ricketts. I have also seen the rough area of uncut forest in the park itself somewhere, and Petrillo mentions no logging within half a mile of Ganoga Lake per Col. Ricketts' order, so we know the rest of the land was cut and could discuss that. So I think it could be a R. Bruce Ricketts and the lumber era section perhaps. Also want to mention the ice business and Ricketts hydroelectirc dams scheme. Ruhrfisch _><>°^° 22:58, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

The Glens Natural Area is 2,845 acres and I do not think all of it is virgin forest. Ruhrfisch _><>°^° 02:32, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Aha, there are 2000 acres of virgin hemlock forest at Ricketts Glen. This is about 15% of the park's 13.050 acres/ Ruhrfisch _><>°^° 02:40, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
