Sexual assault and pedophilia charges against Risley omitted from this biography

edit

This biography omits credible accusations of child sexual assault by Risley. On September 3, 1869, three different newspapers report that Risley assaulted Maria Mason, a girl aged roughly 11 years old. He followed her, tried to take her to coffee shops, and attempted to entice her to his home by offering her a present. The accusations were taken to trial and acquitted, but the controversy may have contributed to the end of his career.

The assault is also reported in the book "Artists of Colour" by Steve Ward. He cites the Liverpool Daily Post from September 3, 1869, which I could not access. 47.34.54.146 (talk) 23:48, 25 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
