Richard Long’s history

Richard Frederick Long was born on July 20, 1937, to Ethel fay Hall-Long and Coy Frederick Long in Vallejo, California. Richard, received the Student's Certificate Senior Division, in Pianoforte Playing, from The Trinity College of Music of London, in San Francisco. On June 10, 1955, he was awarded a certificate of life membership, from the California Scholarship Federation by reason of scholarship and service. Also in the same year Richard, received an achievement award for Science and Mathematics in the form of atrophy from The Bank of America.

He went on to California Institute of Technology, where he received The American Society of Mechanical Engineers Award, in the spring of 1959, for his paper, at the Student Conference, Region VII. On June 12, 1959, he received his Bachelor of Science, then on June 10, 1960, Mr. Long received his Master of Science, both fromCalifornia Institute of Technology.

Richard started his first sound installation company, “Disco Sound,” in 1972. As a result of this successful venture, he open "Soho Place,” discothèque in 1974. As Richard Long Associates grew from a national to an international sound systems company with his endeavors in the early 1980s, Richard became well known worldwide for his innovative achievements in sound design and installation. He received several awards from Billboard magazine, for four consecutive years. He also received a certificate of excellence from “S. A. C.”(the Society of Audio Consultants).
