The $ sign in $alz edit
Someone asked why I spell (I still do) my name with a dollarsign. It started in 7th grade, when my friends and I were looking for ways to "customize" the programs we wrote for PDP-8/e EDU-25 basic. We read an article that said only the first few letters of the statement counted, so we started doing things like
10 REMarkable program by Rich $alz

Schily appears to have some objection to my comment (from measurements of usenet postings) regarding Rich Salz, stating that it's self-promotional. On the page, I took care to note my involvement, that in fact I was a minor participant in the events described. Some clarification of the term "self-promotional" might be useful here.
