Do eels really 'eel' themselves? edit

Regarding the recent anonymous edit, I believe that it is worth discussion whether the eel really 'eels itself' in order to make its way across the terra firma, as our incomparable Roman compatriots would say. Eels, being of the genus serpens eeltonius, prefer a more serpentine approach to movement. Serpents are closely related to the mythical wurm, a close relative of the worm. (The two are not to be confused, but often are, much to the dismay of wurm-thusiasts, as I have taken to calling the members of my recently-formed society.) The eels is related to the worm thus, and therefore I propose that an eel does not 'eel' as my anonymous comrade would like to perpetuate, but rather happily 'worms' its way to its intended destination. This creates the tense yet unavoidable conflict between the two edits, a kind of bigge elefante blanche dans la chambre, as our indomitable French brothers would put it. It is with a heavy heart and a sorry shin that I now recommend the reversal of this obviously well-intentioned yet, alas, misjudged edit.

Signing off,

MPT.

Merge with 'High Rhine'? edit

Most of the material here is represented in the more encyclopedic article High Rhine. --Wetman 07:46, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Rhinefalls is a distinct natural feature and a popular tourist attraction. It is one spot on the so-called Hoch Rhein which is 170km long. IMO it deserves an article of its own, which I doubt the different parts of the Rhein merit.
BTW... it's a German-centric POV to calculate the start of the Rhein at its exit from Bodensee, and ignore the 200-something KM of the real Upper Rhein from its origin until it flows into Bodensee.--Nitsansh 22:15, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
"the largest plain falls"... Ineditable, the sense is so obscure. What are the other kind?--Wetman (talk) 10:27, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
If any Waterfalls at all of Europe merit it's own article than of course the most water-rich, namly the Rhine Falls. But the article in the English version clearly need expansion (could be translated from the Esperanto or German version) - my English is unfortunately too poor to do this job. I agree. It merits its own article. Think I'll remove the merge template.
I'll stick this in Category:Translation Request too, because there is indeed a wealth of information at de:Rheinfall -- Harry Wood (talk) 08:30, 26 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I made a rough translation, but it could use some help. WikiJedits (talk) 20:34, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I removed {{RoughTranslation}} since the article is now looking fine to me (not sure if that's due to improvements or just you being modest) -- Harry Wood (talk) 00:45, 31 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm actually looking for a film (maybe a james bond) where the rhine falls appear, if somebody has an idea... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.80.229.103 (talk) 18:29, 5 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Note: I've removed the category tag (category is inactive and we don't normally tag talk pages in that way). If this still needs expansion from dewiki then put {{Expand German}} on the article page. DexDor (talk) 05:37, 12 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Turner painting edit

We were drawn to this page today because we just saw a painting by JMW Turner of the falls. It might be fun to link them. AJim (talk) 12:36, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

OK. I've added a sentence alongside the bit about poetry. Did you see the painting in the National Gallery Scotland? this link was the one I found. -- Harry Wood (talk) 14:49, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Layout Improvement edit

Hi,

I saw that this article has some great images but they were set with a layout that was very disruptive of the visuals of the article. Therefore, I moved this images to a new "Gallery" section, where these images can still be accessed without disrupting the reading flow. --Murdockcrc (talk) 19:25, 19 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
