Talk:Return to Sender (song)

As I understand things, prior to the adoption of computerized sorting for items to be returned to sender by the United States Postal Service, clerks used a "pointing hand" stamp with possible causes for return, typically (listed under or alongside the "RETURNED TO SENDER" hand):

_ Addressee _ unknown _ deceased
_ Moved, left no address
_ No such _ number _ street _ zone in ______________________
_ No forwarding order on file
...

A variant thereof could be part of a JPEG or PNG to improve this Article, provided Editors who routinely proofread it concur. What images of such stamp imprints are available at the English Wikipedia? B. C. Schmerker (talk) 16:52, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would bet that the lyric is "no such zone" rather than "no such home." In 1962 (before zipcodes were invented) addresses used zones (like Portland 1, Oregon).Papagec (talk) 21:00, 21 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
