Fan kit pictures

edit

On the Wizards site, you can download a fan kit (guild symbols, artwork for some cards, pictures of major characters like Gideon and Niv-Mizzet) for each of the ten guilds for use on your own noncommercial fan sites. Does anyone know whether any of these pictures would be eligible for Fair Use policy? Supernerd11 :D Firemind ^_^ Pokedex 18:39, 5 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Symbol Description

edit

While the recent edit which changed it from "Stylized lock" to "The nib of a fountain pen" (reverted by Leitmotiv) was unsourced, I haven't been able to track down any source for it being a "Stylized lock" either.

  • 23 Dec 2013: It was first given the description "A stylized mitre" (unsourced)
  • 13 Dec 2014: Almost a year later the description was removed as unsourced; the editor said they have heard it referred to as a fountain pen tip, but there is no official statement from WotC
  • 19 Feb 2015: An editor calls it a "Stylized lock" (unsourced)
  • And then we have our recent change/reversion this past week (1st and 8th of July 2016) -- still all unsourced.

The closest official answer I can find is from creative director in 2006 (Yes, likely way before RTR was conceptualized) who refers to the "comprehensive fan-made list" on Wikipedia, but says "Most expansion symbols are chosen just to convey a feeling or tone, so you’ll find that many have no specific meaning."

Given the above, I'm removing the "Symbol Description" for now, though we may want to describe the situation more fully, or find some way to make it clear that the description is not official.

For the little it's worth:
