Talk:Renewable energy in India

Neutrality edit

This article seems to have only a negative view of the topic whereas Solar power in India and Wind power in India has only a positive view. Can't anyone fix it? --Extra 999 (Contact me + contribs) 10:11, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Solar Power edit

The paragraph on TERI's Lighting a Billion Lives Campaign under Solar Power is not related to this in any way and should be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.92.200.216 (talk) 10:54, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to remove it. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 11:16, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Installed capacity at Vankusawade Wind Park edit

I wasn't sure of the Wikipedia conventions on referring to a different talk page. But anyway, I cannot find a consistent answer on the installed capacity at the Vankusawade Wind Park. Refer talk page here. Darthshak (talk) 18:53, 14 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Total Energy edit

So, renewable energy in the country accounts for roughly how much % of the total energy produced? If someone can get some figures for renewable energy and total energy, that would be great. As an example, the opening paragraph of this wikipedia article ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renewable_energy_in_the_United_States ) states the following:

Renewable energy in the United States accounted for 12.9 percent of the domestically produced electricity in 2013, and 11.2 percent of total energy generation.

Framing language edit

"India is densely populated and has high solar insolation, an ideal combination for using solar power in India. "

The assertion about dense population is incorrect or irrelevant and seems to be slipped in there to create a positive tone. Will remove. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.25.119.126 (talk) 12:59, 15 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Percentage of Renewables edit

The first paragraph says that the percentage of renewables including large hydro is 33% (not sourced). However, in Renewable electricity generation section, the same is stated as 17.50%. Well, which is it? Granted, this number is for electricity generation instead of total energy, in which case the percentage should be more than 33% if 33% were correct in the first place. 2601:249:8600:BA:68B0:AEC4:E2E0:D984 (talk) 20:38, 7 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

33% is the installed capacity (GW), 17.5% is the electricity generation (GWh). What this means is that on average renewable sources have lower capacity factors than non-renewable generation. --Ita140188 (talk) 02:25, 8 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

MU edit

CEA source (ref.14,15) denote energy in MU unit. What is the definition of this unit? The table in section Renewable electricity generation lists 227,973 GWh which seems to correspond to 101839.48 MU in ref.15 p.1. So 1 MU is 2.238 GWh ? Rwbest (talk) 07:46, 18 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

I think MU stands for million unit, which they use in India to refer to kWh, so it should be million kWh (GWh). --Ita140188 (talk) 15:27, 18 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
"Renewable energy" in the document cited does not include large hydro, so from that table 227,973-126,134=101,839, which is the value in ref. 15. --Ita140188 (talk) 15:30, 18 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. It's confusing! Rwbest (talk) 14:13, 20 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
