Pills, rehab and relapse itself appear to be the ongoing and dominant themes in the album.[1] This has shown itself throughout the promotional campaign, where Eminems website's background consists itself of pills, as well as the album cover.[2] The fictional "Popsomp Hills" ("Pop some Pills") rehab-center underlines those themes, which refers to Eminem's personal struggle throughout the last years, particularily his sleeping-pill addiction and several rehabs.[3] The album title refers to Eminem's relapse to rap music and even more to the one to sleeping-pills.[3]

Another tool of promotion is "Popsomp Hills", a fictional rehab-center ("Pop some pills" when spoken quickly) which was established on Eminems website and redicules rehab.[4] Via his Twitter account, he posted a picture of himself in front of the sanatorium.[5]

In the interview, Eminem also stated that the only guest appearances for the album would come from 50 Cent and Dr. Dre; however, indications of other possible collaborations came as early as May 2007, when rapper T.I. stated that he and Eminem had recorded three songs together, one of which dealt with their respective alter egos, T.I.P. and Slim Shady. Such a song was intended to be used by Eminem.[6] Various producers have claimed to be involved with the production of the album, including Focus and DJ Premier, the latter of whom also stated that a song named "Keys to the City" would appear on the upcoming album.[7][8] In November 2008, Swizz Beatz claimed he had submitted five tracks to Eminem for the project, including what he described as a sequel to the song "Stan".[9] Eminem would later deny this, stating that Swizz Beatz was not involved in the production of the album.[10] In addition, according to former record label mate Stat Quo, rapper Jay-Z will also make a guest appearance on the album, in a song titled "My Syllielable".[11] Other possible guest appearances include Elton John, who in October 2008 spent half a week with Eminem at the Effigy Studio, leading to speculation of a possible collaboration between the two.[12][13] More recently, according to a report from The Sun, Eminem asked singer Amy Winehouse to collaborate on a song for Relapse, but she refused.[14] Bizarre of D12 also claimed to have a guest appearance on Eminem's album [15]
