Notoriety ?
"she got much notoriety starring in the blockbuster Jerry Maguire" Is there some reference to what about that role caused notoriety'? If there is no citation provided within a week, I will edit the article to remove that notation. 207.69.137.35 18:56, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
You have no right to remove it, period. She DID gain notoriety after playing that part. Not because anything in the part was substantial enough for her to be awarded for, but because the movie itself was a big deal and she played her role professionally and thoughtfully. Therefor she gained notoriety by just having a solid performance in a movie that made a large impact at the time.
Much in the same way that anyone that was in "Star Wars" when it came out and had a solid performance, gained substantial notoriety. The same way "The Matrix" changed everyones life that was involved with it, as long as they did a decent job acting.
I believe that was the intent. \
Not to mention, I am tired of normal everyday people coming to this site and changing things because they simply do not like it, or it does not follow their idea/concept of the site. The problem here is in the choice of words. "Notoriety" is not a positive term. It is not the same as "fame" or "recognition" or "prominence" or "renown." Having "notoriety" means, essentially, that one is "notorious." "Notoriety" is "ill repute," "ill fame," "infamy," etc. In the sentence quoted at the top of comment string, "notice" would seem to reflect the author's intent: "She received much positive notice (or attention) for her role in 'Jerry Maquire.'" —Preceding unsigned comment added by WesternRoad (talk • contribs) 06:34, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe the "notoriety" should refer to her association with Death Row Record's "Female Goon Squad" : "Regina King used to also roll heavy with Suge's female goon squad. She's matured a lot over the years, but back in the day Regina used to be so hood. That's why John Singleton put her in Boyz N The Hood and Poetic Justice. He also wanted Regina to take Janet Jackson around to the hood spots and introduce her to the hood girls so Janet could better portray an L.A. girl in Poetic Justice. I read somewhere that Janet got scared and chickened out though.
