Expanding the history section edit

I noticed the expansion template for the History section. Here are some things that are missing: When did it fall under Roman control? "It was a Byzantine city" -- It is in Western Roman territory and therefore was not always Byzantine, so when did the Byzantines reclaim it? (I'm guessing 275 BC for when it became Roman, because that was the end of the Pyrrhic War and of Greek colonies in Italy.) Someone the Person (talk) 23:43, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Count Belasaurius was sent by Justin, Emperor of the then Roman empire and then recaptured the Italian Peninsula for Rome, which we call Byzantine, which they never did.76.181.105.219 (talk) 20:05, 3 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Reggio DI Calabria edit

The city of Reggio after 1861 Italian unification become Reggio di Calabria (as well as Reggio di Lombardia or Reggio di Modena become Reggio nell'Emilia) and this is its official name.

A part of being the official character of this place-name there is another philological reason: di Calabria (like Calabro, Calabra, nell'Emilia, di Romagna, in Puglia, Ligure, Siculo, Etneo... as well) has to be considered an attribute for the toponym Reggio and not as a part of this toponym; they are all attributes for specifying the location of a city, a town or a village after 1861 Italian unification (they didn't exist, in general, before this date).

So, I think the article has to have the name Reggio di Calabria instead of Reggio Calabria (and Reggio nell'Emilia, instead of Reggio Emilia). --AlexanderFreud (talk) 15:58, 26 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

ABOUT METROPOLITAN AREA OF REGGIO edit

Concerning this point: More than 370,000 people live in the metropolitan area, making it the 10th largest metropolitan area in Italy. There was some misunderstanding: the matter is that Reggio was nominated as the 10th "Città Metropolitana" (something as Metropolitan City) inside Italian Republic; this is a governmental status, it isn't a geographical or social status. For example Palermo (almost 700 000 inhabitants) is not a "Città Metropolitana" because Sicily is a politically autonomous region and they don't have, currently, this kind of political institution. --AlexanderFreud (talk) 17:59, 9 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Edit Request edit

Under the section "International Relations", there are three paragraphs that appear to have been machine translated, and which make little if any sense in English:

The city of Reggio, formerly a Polis of Magna Grecia, has to consolidate the existing relations of cooperation with some Greek cities which are linked by common historical and cultural roots. It is considerable that in Reggio a community of Greek-Bovesian speakers still exists.
Given the closeness shared by the countries bordering the Mediterranean basin, and very topical interest to the consolidation of the European Union's enlargement policy, he also intended to establish trade relations with the Republic of Malta aimed at encouraging mutual knowledge and awareness in a profitable way their local communities on European issues of common interest and current.
An 'open to the issue of enlargement with all the problems it entails, in terms of citizens' fears and doubts related to the impact of this process on freedom of movement, on daily life and employment, it is also the origin relations of exchange and cooperation that the Administration of Reggio intends to establish with some cities of Poland, especially given the growing progressive presence in the territory of Reggio, Polish citizens who have long hosted within its territory.

Switch infobox edit

I propose replacing the current {{Infobox settlement}} with {{Infobox Italian comune}}. The latter is designed to be used for Italian towns and cities and is currently used on nearly every Italian comune and city. That template is able to accommodate everything currently in the infobox while being optimized for Italy. Ergo Sum 22:06, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

If there are no objections, I will go ahead and implement the proposed switch. Ergo Sum 01:12, 4 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

HISTORICAL EVIDENCE OF PRE-GREEK SETTLEMENT edit

Sentences such as The history of the area before the arrival of the Greeks in the eighth century BC is not reliably known , Mythical accounts , They also claim that , Allegedly, the name derives from king Italus are pretentious. There are historical evidences of the existence of Reggio before Greeks arrived as we have for instance of Santiago before Spaniards arrived in present-day Chile. Such evidences are obviously not buildings (7 huge earthquakes destroyed Reggio) but the pre-Greek settlement has been reported by ancient Greek Historians. IF WE CANNOT CONSIDER AS AN HISTORICAL PROVE THE MATERIAL REPORTED BY HISTORIANS WHAT IS AN HISTORICAL EVIDENCE? --AlexanderFreud (talk) 16:21, 19 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
