Disambiguate?

Much that disambiguation is messy, I propose that it may be a good idea. Although this article currently concerns food, there are several other meanings for recipe that I feel the current focus is inhibiting.

Including

  • Numerical recipes
  • Computer-hardware and silicon
  • Chemical/hermetic
  • Potions(magic)

I would tend to agree. Has anyone thought of making a recipe Wiki? Would that make sense, or is there something similar for adding entries to a sort of database? It would be awesome if you could then search by ingredients or time, etc. gujamin 13:28, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
There's a recipe search engine at http://www.foodieview.com/index.jsp . I had been intending to build one myself but this one looks pretty good. There's a recipe Wiki that's part of Wikipedia here http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Cookbook and some of the external links in this article have recipe Wikis. SilverFox 21:32, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Lots of external links - what to do with them?

The article has a lot of external links and more are added. One option to deal with this is to delete all these links and make it hard to add new ones (like it was done in Real estate). What are opinions of others? Pavel Vozenilek 20:43, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Categorize with subheaders. There's not enough here now to be any problem. Delete dubious ones. Keep good ones. Sure, that's somewhat subjective, but a good revert war once in a while is a good thing. Gene Nygaard 22:40, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
There are a lot of external links now. I had a quick look at the most recently added ones and people are adding them at the top or in the middle. Surely it would be more polite to add new links to the bottom?! SilverFox 09:59, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
Sorry...one of those people was me. I agree that categories would be a big help. gujamin 13:28, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Not sure if this is the place to put external links at all. If people want to look for recipes they can use google.
I disagree vehemently with the last post -- Google is very lousy for recipe search, and there are lots of niche search engines that do much better. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.61.59.32 (talk) 14:15, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Recipe Wiki

I am the sole administrator for this Recipe Wiki Site: Cookbookwiki.com. Anyone interested in helping admin the wiki, let me know. My username is Wikimanager there. We have thousands of recipes already, but the site needs some volunteers and community help. Cosmicfly 19:57, 30 December 2005 (UTC):

How does the Cookbook Wiki deal with copyrighted recipes? I just realized today that recipes can be and are copyrighted, so curious as to how different a recipe has to be from the copyrighted version to be legal.

MSTCrow 02:45, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Recipes are not copyrighted and cannot be copyrighted (at least under U.S. copyright; some more details below by an anonymous user). Hulten (talk) 15:32, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

The actual ingredients and steps needed to make a recipe are not able to be copyrighted. The descriptive language can be copyrighted, so all the flourishes of the author have to be stripped out before we can include it. Hope this helps.

History?

How about some recipe history - what is the earliest know history of a recipe? How did recipe's get bandied about historically? How about proprietary recipe's, like KFC's chicken seasoning? bd2412 T 05:51, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
