Well, I wonder who decided that

• (from Real_part or simalar in Imaginary_part)

It is denoted by ${\mbox{Re}}\{z\}$ or $\Re \{z\}$

where the second appear bigger and somehow preferred, while the more common way to refer to real part is:

• (from Imaginary_number)

The number $x\$, defined by

$x=\operatorname {Re} (z)$

is the real part of the complex number, $z\$, and $y\$, defined by

$y=\operatorname {Im} (z)$

is the imaginary part.
