NOTE TO READERS / CONTRIBUTORS: Please (anyone) offer suggestions as to how the article, "Ray Reach," may be cleaned up.

Allenstone here. PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM A REVIEWER FOR WIKIPEDIA. While Ray Reach was once one of my college teachers, we do not stay in close touch. Therefore, we are NOT closely connected. Mr. Reach is one of the most highly respected, important and influential figures in Alabama jazz, owing to his history in Alabama jazz education, both at the university level, and in his role as Director of Student Jazz Programs at the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame. In addition, he has performed with, arranged for and produced recordings for numerous notable Jazz musicians, including the late Clark Terry, the late Lew Soloff, saxophonist Lou Marini, Jr. (Stan Kenton Orchestra, Buddy Rich Big Band, Blood, Sweat and Tears and notable pop figures such as Maureen McGovern, Steely Dan, James Taylor, etc), guitarist/vocalist Jonathan Butler, and many others. Two good examples of Mr. Reach's productions are the CDs, "Lou's Blues," by Lou Marini and the Magic City Jazz Orchestra and UAB SuperJazz, Featuring Ellis Marsalis. There is a Wikipedia article about both of these recordings.

More evidence of Mr. Reach's notability as a music educator is the fact that he received a proclamation from the Alabama State Legislature (2013) commending him for his contributions to music (particularly Jazz) education in Alabama. (See photograph in the article).

Unfortunately, I do not have the time to research and locate citations which would offer further proof of Mr. Reach's notability. I contacted Mr. Reach, and he suggested that anyone who has lots of free time could find supporting documentation, and / or verify Mr. Reach's notability by contacting some of the notable jazz figures with whom he has worked, such as the ones listed below. Mr. Reach was kind enough to provide contact information.

Ellis Marsalis, Jr. (jazz pianist, father of Wynton, Branford, Jason and Delfayeo, professor emeritus of Jazz Studies, University of New Orleans) - listed in the New Orleans phone directory as "Ellis Marsalis, Jr." His email address is: emarsalis@att.net

Bill Goodwin (jazz drummer) (drummer for Phil Woods, Gary Burton, etc. Also producer for Phil Woods' recordings) - Mr. Goodwin and Mr. Reach have worked together every year (for more than 10 years) at the W.C. Handy Music Festival. His email address is: bgadoggy@hotmail.com

Nancy Gonce (Executive Director of the W. C. Handy Music Festival) - Mr. Reach has been a regular (and favorite) member of the W.C. Handy jazz All-Stars for more than 10 years. Her email address is: ngonce@bellsouth.net. The W.C. Handy Festival has a website, where you can probably find a phone number.

Dan Haerle - Professor Emeritus in the Jazz Studies Program at the University of North Texas, one of the world's premier college Jazz Studies programs. His email address is: dan@danhaerle.com. His phone number is probably listed in Denton, Texas.

Tom Malone (musician) (trombonist / arranger on the Dave Letterman Show, also played with Blood, Sweat and Tears and the Gil Evans Orchestra) - knows Mr. Reach very well. His email address is: tombonesmalone1697@gmail.com

Chuck Redd is a drummer and vibraphonist from the Washington, DC area who has worked with Mel Torme, Barney Kessell, and Charlie Byrd, among others. He is well aquainted with Mr. Reach and his work. Chuck's email address is chuckreddmusic@gmail.com.

Cleveland Eaton (bassist, 17 years with Count Basie Orchestra, 10 years with the Ramsey Lewis Trio) - Mr. Eaton and Mr. Reach have worked together extensively for 40+ years. His home phone number is 205-781-1236. His wife's name is Myra.

William Ross (composer) (film composer and conductor of the Academy Awards Orchestra) endorses Mr. Reach's talent and skill. See Mr. Reach's website: www.rayreach.com. Also, Mr. Ross' website is: www.williamrossmusic.com Email: contact@williamrossmusic.com

PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM A REVIEWER FOR WIKIPEDIA. If necessary, letters of recommendation (testifying as to Mr. Reach's notability) could be provided by all the personal references listed above, as well as a number of others.

Mr. Reach is known and recognized nationally as a major contributor to the preservation of Jazz, America's classical music. For these and numerous other reasons, I do not believe that his article should be deleted. Allenstone (talk) 14:23, 18 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Too much

edit

There's too much of everything. It's unfair for someone connected to the subject to make this infodump and assume that "anyone who has lots of free time" will cheerfully clean up this mess. Authors need to take some responsibility.
