Although having just reverted an edit to that effect (longish quotes in French aren't the best content), on checking the literature it becomes rather clear that the species is indeed not extinct, and several populations are know. See this article from 2011. It appears that IUCN just hasn't managed to update their entry (from 1998) yet.
