Bithia Mary Croker edit

Anyone know anything about BMC? Some people in Rathangan obviously felt she was notable. Sarah777 (talk) 18:41, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Croker, Mrs B[ithia] M[ary] (née B. M. Shephard) (1850-1920), romantic novelist. Born in Co. Roscommon, she was educated in Cheshire before marrying an army officer. Her early novels, such as Proper Pride (1883) and Pretty Miss Neville (1883), depict Anglo-India. In The Kingdom of Kerry (1896) she surveys the down-at-the heel Anglo-Irish ascendancy. Beyond the Pale (1897) and Lismoyle (1914) are further Irish novels. .... taken from answers dot com —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skintandbroke (talkcontribs) 01:28, 11 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

B. M. Croker is credited with 50 novels and short stories, dating from her first "Proper Pride" in 1882 to her last "The House of Rest" (published after her death), in 1921. Her writing has been described as witty & fast moving. Most of her works went through numerous reprints and some were translated into French, Spanish and German. Recently some have been translated and printed in Eastern Europe, (20 of her books have been translated into Hungarian) and a number have also been reprinted in the USA & Japan, both in hard copy & as e-books. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skintandbroke (talkcontribs) 01:33, 11 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
