• In response to edit: "23:11, 30 November 2006 Fourohfour (Talk | contribs) ((Please don't hide names on disambig pages)" I was trying to make the Reepham High School link link to the relevant subcatagory in the Reepham, Norfolk article, but lacked the experience to form the code right. Hi there; I see what you meant now. I did it this way:-

[[Reepham, Norfolk#Reepham_High_School|Reepham High School]]

Note the use of the hash symbol. A way to get this without working it out yourself is to simply go to the article, click on the name of the subsection, and then get it from the URL. For example, from

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reepham%2C_Norfolk#Reepham_High_School

we take the part

Reepham%2C_Norfolk#Reepham_High_School

and use that. Notice that (for web reasons), the comma got changed to "%2C"; this doesn't matter.

And I *did* hide the name by piping after all, :-) since "Reepham%2C_Norfolk#Reepham_High_School" isn't a proper article title, and I'm sure the intention of the MoS wasn't to expose people to techno-gunk like that (^_^). Hope this helps. Fourohfour 19:52, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

High schools and disambig pages

@Ollieinc: Hi! About this edit:

High school articles do exist on ENwiki and people will want to know which high schools "RHS" stands for. Perhaps we could set up "RHS (high school disambiguation) to be a repository for this? If there's a discussion page that is relevant, may I have the link?

1. Thank you, User:Ollieinc. I'd like to address some of the statements in the AFD. User:Squeamish Ossifrage stated "Several of these explicitly state that many of the schools involved are not generally known by their initials." The way to solve such things to peruse high school websites and document which ones do use acronyms in this way; people in casual conversations do refer to initials, and the schools themselves can and do as well. I often do document which instances of an acronym are used and comment them into pages. Therefore I strongly suggest collecting URLs with these acronyms and archiving them. The official website for Ralston High School for example used "RHS" on its official website as an acronym for itself: "RHS offers over 200 courses in 19 subject areas."

2. Also I disagree with User:Voortle's statement that "No one is gonna search for a high school by typing in the abbreviation." People can and do search with abbreviations, and sometimes somebody gets a document which uses acronyms the reader doesn't know: the disambig page shows what possibilities the acronym has, and a reader should know which high schools use the acronym.

3. In regards to Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Abbreviations,_initials_and_acronyms which says "Do not add articles to abbreviation or acronym disambiguation pages unless the target article includes the acronym or abbreviation—we are resolving an ambiguity, not making yet another dictionary of abbreviations." I actually do use the abbreviations, as the official websites/documents do, and put them in the lead of the article (comment in evidence of this being used) so the reader understands the common abbreviations for the school.

4. User:Sam Sailor: Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Abbreviations#Acronyms_in_page_titles mostly addresses article naming, but it does have a point that AJAR (African journal) is inappropriate because AJAR would be perfectly fine. That just means high school instances can be documented and listed at "RHS".
